Yesterday when browsing a Samba share I received "share is not accessible.Sephimore timeout period has expired".I was on a Win2K client.I did a little research but cant quite put my finger on what this is about.

I rebooted the box (which is the usual windows solution...what a joke.) It worked.I did come across a suggestion of adjusting a registry key from the default value of 20..but Im interested in seeing if anyone else has seen this. From what I summazised its a smb protocol issue.Man I wish I was capturing the wire at the time.

Its good to come across something like this especially when we will (at least I know in my environment) be seeing more and more Linux/Windows connectivity via Samba.

We noticed in the same behaviour in our office. Occasionally it happens that a samba share is not available. We don't get your error msg, only a window with username/password - both on W2K and NT4 workstations. First times I restarted nmbd to fix the problem until we realized that this "status" lasts only a few seconds before everything is ok again without any effort. It's a kind of "magic" ... and a chance to go for a coffee!

I didnt restart the samba daemons becouse browsing, accessing the share from other clients was possible. It may just be a Win2K issue (other attempts were made from NT4 clients)

The sephemore timeout still illudes me...

I've never run across anything like that. Then again, there's only one Win2k box on my network so I don't have that much exposure to Samba/Win2k issues. Do you have any weird smb.conf settings?

No, nothing out of the ordinary.

Its proably another wonderful windows "feature".

Probably, I'm discovering those "features" all the time
