Hey guys,
I am looking for some resources here. In the next few months, I have to get my Linux LPI knocked out. Just a little background, not too much hands on with linux, other than a few installs, but about 3 years as a Solaris Poweruser. I need to get this done as fast as possible. The good part is that I have a lab that I can play with that has 7 servers and 2 workstations. I want to do RHCE, but with everything that I have read, I think I am going to do the LPI first, so that I can go ahead and meet the requirements of my company, then take the RH300 course, and RHCE test after I have done LPI, and am completely comfortable with Linux. Any resources from you guys who have passed LPI would be great. I am about to purchase LPI in a nutshell by oreilley, and am also looking for a couple Non-certification books, just to learn Linux better. I have read good reviews about the book, A Practical Guide to Linux, do any of you guys have any other suggestions for good reading material, documentation sites, etc? Thanks for your time and input!

Being a Solaris poweruser, it shouldn't be too difficult for you to transition to Linux. I've never been disapointed in an O'Reilley book. I have A Practicle Guide to Solaris and it's fairly good if that's any indication. Sybex books are usually good and I recommend avoiding Exam Cram books. Running Linux is popular amoung newbies, but may be too simplistic for you. Don't forget the most important resource - man pages!

U will do great! 3 yrs is long period.

Work and play around it.

RHCE is not difficult if you know and have enough experience on Linux. It will be great one to go after.

Many Govn't job is toward Linux, No only free, but free from the MS license madness! Haa

Good to have you on the board!

Im looking at either LPI or SAIR (there is rumor of a merge as well.) What ever I come across I will be sure to post.Im basically going to take the objectives, use them as my guide. The rute users handbook is a great resource as is the LDP..and oh yeah long live MAN pages!

Good luck!

I appreciate all the feedback guys! I am going to start with LPI, then hit the RHCE sometime next year. I want to be really comfortable before taking the class and the test, so LPI should be a good spin up for that. I will keep you guys posted on what materials I am using, and how it is working out! Thanks again!
