Hi Everyone,

I am interested in getting to know Linux, as there are quite a few servers in our parent company that now run Unix/Linux. I would like to dual boot on a machine at work with Windows 98SE, so that I can continue to use an MS OS until I have become more familiar with Linux. Has this ever created any problems before with anyone on this board?

If this is not recommended, I will load it up on a spare machine. Am I correct in assuming RedHat is free to download? Is this the best version to start with? I have been looking at SuSe and ManDrake as well.

If someone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it!

Thanks.

I would use Mandrake 8 or 8.1 since it is the closest to Windows . That is what I am using to learn Linux.

I recommend starting out with Mandrake as well although RedHat's also a good choice. You should be able to dual boot Win98SE and Mandrake 8.x w/o any trouble. Many Linux variants including Mandrake and RedHat can be downloaded for free from http://linuxiso.org
