| just finished linux 6.0 RedHat installation and now its asking me for a username & password !!!!! i havent even created any users yet ...
during installation only passwoed i entered was the root password
any1 who might know the username and password for loging in the system for the first time ??????? | |

| If you didn't create any other accounts during setup then login as root and create at least one other account. It's not a good idea to stay logged in as root when you don't have root privilages since it's easy to cause damage to the system as root. | |

Hmm, that didn't come out right. I meant to say it's not a good idea to stay logged in as root since when you have root privilages it's easy to cause damage to the the system.

| In almost every Linux variant (btw, this is starting to change) root has absolute power over everything. If you're logged in as root and type in a command that could cause damage there's nothing to stop it from executing. If you're logged in as a less powerfull user then there's a good chance that you won't have the neccessary permissions.
Also, certain programs like x-window are full of security holes. When a system's comprimised the damage that can be done has alot to do with what user's running the exploited service. |
