It looks like the virii have began hitting Linux. Take a look at these articles:

I fear as Linux become more and more popular and more standardised, people will began to get more proficient at writing virii that can attack UN*X systems. The Open-Source nature of Linux might make this much easier to correct than in the case of vendors like MS or Novell, but I think things like this will become more and more common in the future. Anyone have any comments?

I read it, 2. Linux is very powerful if u know how to use and also can cause huge demage on anyone.

I did not pay much attention even I used RH6.2 sometime. However, after received the newsletter!

Just read the article. That's scary stuff, especially about the Morris worm in 88.

It's important to remember though that nearly every virus and exploit for Linux is based on the many security holes of the default install (especially with Red Hat). No one should ever put up a production *nix server without doing some security tweaks, unless you're using OpenBSD of course, but even then...

It's probably a good thing this virus did come out. It's relatively harmless and helps to raise awareness before something distructive spreads.

I agree. You can't have a "secure" system just by running Linux . . . with such a complicated system, so much depends on the administration, that it might just be the thing we needed to keep us on our toes.
