Anybody with comment about RH or SuSe!

I am a RH user, but I found SuSe is more user friendly and easy to use.

Any feedback..

It is all one what you feel comfortable with. If you are comfortable and knowledgeable with Red Hat, stick with it.

The problem with Linux is that there are too many distributions. There is not one that organizations can grab onto comfortably. Red Hat seems to be the answer right now.

Just my opinion....

Interesting comment!

Also, I found that Global Knowledge offer course for RHCE.

For those interesting in RH. U don't have to go to CA! $$$$

Red Hat certification is expensive. Big Bucks$$$ That is somethink that I would look into if I were using Red Hat Linux on a regular, professional basis.

While each distribution is built around the same kernel, there are distinct differences in how each company wants to be marketed and viewed. Corel for instance, makes a somewhat idiot-proof interface for installation and their premise is that the linux install will be something to play with when not using windows. Market-wise, Red Hat has definitely gotten out the door first. If you are looking at certs, the RHCE is probably the way to go. The reason it's so expensive is that there is a practicum involved. The only other vendor to require one (that I know of) is the CCIE. And when you think of it in that light, $750 is not so bad. However, IMO, RHCE represents a collision of sorts between certification-oriented programs like MCSE/CNE and unix-world experience-based value. I know of many unix experts who have never even completemplated pursuing a cert, yet have mad programming/admin skills.

For what it's worth, there is a very high failure rate for the hands-on portion of the exam.

My suggestion?: I would purchase a decent workstation and load up several! You can get a multi-pack of distributions from linuxmall.com very cheaply, partition your drive(s) out with partition magic or similar, and then load them up! Stay with the big ones like RH, Debian (my current preferred), TurboLinux, Caldera, etc.

Note: Linux is still in its infancy, business-wise and there won't be much of a ROI on a RHCE. If this is an issue, look at getting a Sun Cert, like SCSA and SCNA. You can get an intel version of solaris7/8 cheaply ($75) and load it up.

Hope this helps!
