I recently passed both the Exam #1Z0-001 Introduction to Oracle: SQL and PL/SQL and Exam #1Z0-101 Develop PL/SQL Program Units .
This does not entitle me to become an OCA member.

I now see that oracle has changed the 9i certification so that if you pass Exam #1Z0-001 Introduction to Oracle: SQL and PL/SQL and
Exam #1Z0-147 Oracle9i: Program with PL/SQL you do become an OCA.

To me it seems unfair that I have to take the 1zo-147 exam which is so very similar to the one I’ve already passed to receive and OCA credential.
Will there be a simple upgrade exam or was my time spent on becoming an OCP so far a waste of time?

It also now states that there are required courses for the 9i OCP does this mean that I can not simply study myself and take the exam.
Are oracle forcing candidates to pay for Oracle run courses to gain OCP?

Course:
You only need to attend a course at Oracle in the case you go for the OCP DBA 9i.
That does not apply to you because you chose the Developer track.

Upgrade:
A friend of mine got caught in the same trap, took 1z0-101 when 1z1-141 wasn't released yet.
Oracle told me there is no upgrade exam for people wo just have 1z0-001 and 1z0-101.
Reason:
1z0-101 is part of the old OCP Developer track for Forms 6i.
1z0-147 is part of the new OCP Developer track for Forms 9i.
There is no OCA for Forms 6i programmers, hence there is no upgrade exam to make you a OCA Developer for 9i.
Apparently it is a new idea to give people the certificate "OCA Developer", maybe they wanted to make the developer track more attractive. At least now you can be a kind of certified PL/SQL developer when you have passed the first two exams 1z0-101 (or 1z0-107) and 1z0-147.
