its still in beta - 50$ till the end of june

However - i have difficulty finding any studymaterials for this.
im not going to freewilllingly pay ridiculous amount for oracle (they just want too much money for their courses - you'll overpay at least 2-3 times)

ANyway - if anybody knows where to find materials for this exam (1z0-140) PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!

Hard to find? That should give you a clue as to how relevant that certification is (not very).

I just have one question to you - WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT ORACLE??
and oracle developer certifications?

OCP 8i and 9i, shell scripting, database design, and forms. Plus iAS and iDS (like to see what it takes to get either of those products installed?), UNIX admin (SCSA), and Windows admin (working on MCSE for the hell of it). Believe me when I say I can rock and roll on Oracle. How many jobs ads do you see where the employer is asking for forms certification? How many jobs ads do you see where the employer is asking for OCP certification - on the database side, that is? A few now and then, which is a lot more than practically zero for developer certification.

So what do you know about Oracle?

Well - its impressive experience you have - I just did not get that snappy remark...
I guess its just that you dont respect the OCP-ad certification - However im proud of it because it took a lot of hard work for me to aquire it

Im certified as OCP application developer 6/6i (want to keep myself current and upgrade to 9i) and OCA (9i dba associate)
However - I do not have much on-the-job experience with oracle. Currently Im working with MySQL and Razor's Edge DBs; in the past I have dealt with SQL Server and Access

Well - most likely Im not going to work as a developer <thats just not my thing>. BUT I think one job you have forgotten is a teaching job - that would most likely require certifications. So im planning to work as a db/network admin and on the side to teach (btw, i just passed today ccna)

OK - if you really do rock-n-roll in oracle - Could you please help me out with one thing:
I have always trouble with iDS SETUP -
most of the times when I have installed oracle db and DS im unable to connect from DS to DB. <I think its to do with listeners>

So do you know how to do it and where could i find step-by-step guide for this?

iDS connecting to a 9i database:
iDS has its own set of Oracle Net Services configuration files, just like 6i and 6.0 do/did (Net8 back in 8i days). You can manually edit these files for iDS use, or use TNS_ADMIN environment variable - UNIX or Windows, works for both. The only listener you need to worry about is the one for the RDBMS server.

There is no step-by-step guide (published by Oracle) that is accurate enough to install iDS without having some configuration problems.

What specific problems are you having getting iDS installed?

Despite whatever Oracle says about being able to install different products in the same Oracle home location, don't. That arrangement could become disallowed in a subsequent release. It is almost always better to install a product in its own ORACLE_HOME location, along with creating a separate owner for each product (Oracle9i database is owned by oracle9, Oracle9iDS program files is owned by ids, both belong to the the dba and oinstall groups).

I think the certs are worthwhile if you feel like you worked to earn them. The developer certs can't hurt - they may get you into an interview, but the demand for them is virtually nonexistent.

Hey - Thanks a lot for the info!
Maybe Ill try installing Oracle DB and DS9i again; hopefully i will have time to do that next week after taking 70-218 exam (and getting MCSA).
I hope that you will be still cruising threads here and when i will have problem with DS-db connection setup (which i mostcertainly will have have) You will be able to help me - I most certainly will appreciate that. Then I have a chance to play around with Oracle again and prepare to upgrade my certs - OCP ad 6i to OCP ad 9 AND OCA to OCP dba 9i.
I just hope that I will have time and most importantly will and motivation to do that
(of course i also want to aquire CCNP <4exams>, mcdba <1 exam> and maybe SunSolaris or Linux certs
I know i know - probably i should get a real job in db/network admin field in a big company first...

OH well - ill just take one day <one exam> at a time; and I will dream big <sometimes too big for my own good ...
