With the way the economy is right now in the U.S., unless you already have gotten your foot in the door and are currently working with Oracle, your chances of getting an entry level (Junior DBA) position are slim to none. So for those of you who are trying, i would suggest you go back to school in the meantime while the economy recuperates within the next 1 to 2 years when companies again will have enough resources to hire and train a newbie with no job experience.
When the economy is as bad as it is now, companies have a greater pool of laid-off workers that they can pick and choose from. Needless to say they will only hire those with many years on the job under their belt that can help the compnay streamline their business transactions. They dont have time or the money to train anyone when they can hire from a large pool of well qualified workers to do the job.

You are right about this, but this true in most other professions as well.
You have to use your previous experience to get a job these days, or be able to embellish your resume & do well in the interview to get there. That is the way it is.
Try combining your Oracle certification with other skills you may have. That is what I am trying to do. I presently work in Fund accounting, but want to get into more of a development, programming role down the road. The Oracle developer certification combined with my previous experience should help, BUT, more money on more (and more expensive) education, for some academic degree will not.
