| HI!
DO NOT BUY SEBEX ORACLE8I BOOKS,IT IS OF NO USE.
ALL YOU NEED IS THE ORACLE OFFICIAL BOOKS.
GOOD LUCK. | |

| Although, the SYBEX books are better than the Oracle Press books. | |

| With all due respect to kennyjava,
The Sybex books are not useless at all.
IMHO they are better than Oracle press in that they are focussed on what you need to know for OCP.
Having said that I would suggest anyone studying for OCP should not rely on one source of information.
They all have mistakes and certain facts do need to be cross checked.
A word of warning, from what I've read, RMAN is pretty poorly covered by Sybex so you will definitely need to supplement on B&R.
Best of Luck

| I used the SYBEX books for all my CERT exams in 8i (as well as additional resources, downloads and and STS for Backup and Recovery (helped alot)).
I'm also 100% in agreeance with Mr Hobbs. The Backup and Recovery Section in the SYBEX guide is absolute garbage. You will require additional resources for your study than this guide.
Also, what Nick said about multiple resources cannot be ignored, it is very important to have a different view on concepts from different writers. Makes it easier to understand topics.
PS. I see your forum hopping like me Nick. Take it easy.
Cheers,

| Ahh prankster you spotted me!!!
Sometimes you just have to get around a bit dont ya!
I got the Oracle B&R handbook and sincerely hope that will be enough.
I never seen the STS tests, how would you rate them against the Sybex tests?

| hi!nick_hobbs,how are u?
both oracle ocp official books and STS test
software focus on cert topics.
I also have sybex all 3 e-books ocp8i,I checked them, and these are not close to real exam.
setup oracle soft, read oracle official books and use STS,u will
pass easily.
ex:I got full marks on 1z0-001.
and all the other are more than 90% score. | |

| Hi kennyjava,
I passed IZ0-001 with about 86%.
Made a couple of silly mistakes but the one that really threw me was something about a "Pairwise" query.
I couldn't find that term anywhere unless it was to do with time series calculations in which case Sybex didn't cover it at all.
Kind of annoyed me as I had 10 years + experience with DB2 so complex sub queries etc weren't too much of a problem.
Ho hum, onwards to A&A.
Cheers

| Nick,
STS practice exams rule I believe, not only for their study qualities, but the confidence they give you prior to sitting an exam. It's comforting to know, when you can answer most of the 300 practice exam question correctly, your ready to sit the real exam. For Oracle Backup and Recovery, I found it essential. (I got my highest mark for this exam... and it was the one I was worried about the most). Also, it was the only exam I used an STS to help with my study.... coincidence?
Catch ya... | |

| Morning/Afternoon Prankster (+9 ?)
I'm beginning to agree with you that for B&R at least, get STS.
I heard a rumour that STS occasionally offered a cheaper deal.
Let's be fair I'm not poor, just tight as a gnats chuff.
Did you order the CD? If so what were the delivery times like?
See ya

| Regarding STS - once you purchase one exam, you will often be emailed with offers such as 20 or 30% off, sometimes even buy 2 get one free. I have purchased two STS exams now, and always did the download option. You can always download the software again if needed. | |

| Hi all,
Before I ask my question I want to thank you all who wrote their opinion on this thread. It's very helpful for anybody who is a beginner for oracle... Like me
Well, I am new to Oracle as I said.. I am a little bet confused about the diffrence between 9i and 8i.. I reviewed the Oracle site.. I understand that If I take IZ0-001 I can go on 9i too with no need for IZ0-007 as I have material and books for IZ0-001 not 7..
IS that right?
Also from this thread I understand that Oracle Official books and selftest software are enough. I studied them and I got 80% from the first time using the self test.. I'll do more practise until getting the 100%..
Do you have any advices as I'll go for the exam this week?!
I am really afraid this is my first exam with Oracle. So I really need your help, any tiny piece of information will be helpful.. waiting for your replies |
