which ocp to go for (8i or 9i)
|

| Hi,
I am planning to go for an oracle certification. But now i am confused whether to go for the 9i DBA track or the 8i DBA track ? Pointers to any good reference books for the same would be very helpful,
Thanks,

| HI RAVI
I READ UR QUESTION WELL AS FAR AS I KNOW THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORACALE 8i
AND 9i. IF U COMPLETED CERTIFICATION COURSE IN ORACLE 8i THEN ITS BETTER TO ATTEMPT THE ORACLE 8i EXAM.
I HAVE RECEIVED A TEST COPY OF 9i, IT IS HELL OF A DIFFERENT THE ITS PREVIOUS VERSION.
THOUGH IT MIGHT NOT EFFECT ME BECAUSE I CHOSE THE DEVELOPER TRACK.
THANKS

| Adnan,
Do you mind share out your test copy of 9i? I'm very interested. Thank you.

lunchan,
You can download all Oracle materials from their website - check out the Oracle Technology Network (ask OTN). | |

| 9i is downloadable on a 30-day trial basis from Oracle. Also, I think that they'll even send you CDs if you call and ask for the trial set.
Some things to think about when choosing the DBA track:
Oracle 8i: 5 tests
Oracle 9i: 4 tests, 1 classroom course
Oracle 9i Upgrade: Oracle 8i OCP + 1 test
I am 3/5 of the way through my OCP certificaiton for 8i, and I've done all my studying and work on my own. I don't know why a class is required for the 9i track, but I'm not thrilled with the idea of spending more money than all of the other tests combined just to learn something I could pick up on my own.
Hope this helps! |
