Help, need advice on Oracle certs

| Hello all,
need some feedback and advice. Am a NT4.0 MCSE, and am currently employed as customer support for software that uses 8i. Have to use SQL, have found that I like it, and am interested in pursuing more knowledge, and while I'm at it, certification.
What courses and books would be best? Money IS a consideration, (having spent $8k + on an MSCE cert factory). Also, would it be a good idea to obtain a DBO cert first while on the DBA track?
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

| I have just completed my Solaris 7 cert recently, and I want to pursue two more certs. I want CCNA and Oracle DBO. I dont want to do the whole DBA because I'm not that interested in becoming a DBA, but I want to be functional in Oracle databases (helps as a jr. admin).
I would also like to know what sources I could use to study for the DBO cert? And where I could possibly get access to a database (tried to download the personal Oracle 8i database and it wouldnt install on my PC)? Thanks.

| IMHO, DBO is nothing, don't waste your time
Go for 9i DBA | |

Well, that's another $50 wasted on a book, like an unemployed guy like me needs to waste money.
But anyway, if I go for DBA or OCA (more feasible), then how would I be able to get hands on? I have no interest in taking a course, I'm not spending any more money than books and exam fees....if you have any ideas please share. Thanx. |
