Hi all:

Took the exam on wednesday and passed it. Needed 39 earned 42. Just made it. Now I am to decide for good which direction to go first, DBA or DBO. I enjoy programming (though not very strong at it)so I am incline to go the DBO track first. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

If you like programing then try OCP Forms Developer 6/6i, it is really fun!

Cheers!

I am planning to prepare for DBA track. Which is better 8i or 9i? But i will have to take pl/sql first. Is there any difference between the pL/sql of 9i and 8i? I need some tips from you on what books to use for Pl/sql?

I spent a lot on materials. I bought Oracle SQL the essential reference by David C. krenines.
Good reference material to refresh alot of SQL, PL/SQL stuff and Oracle PL/SQL Developer's Workbook.
by Steven Feuerstein with Andrew odewahn. Full of coding questions and answer form beginning to Advance level and also Oracle 8i
The complete Reference by Kevin Loney and George Koch. Great books. I also have the practice exam question from STS containing 308
question testing you on all relivant areas.

I wish to pass at the first attempt.

Hello all:

Thank you to everyone who extended congratulatory posts.

I do enjoy programming so I think I will move along the developer track. My eyes are now set on the Forms exam. I am currently studying for the CCDA and will start preparing for the Forms at the same time.

For the PL/SQL exam, I used the Oracle University Book ($175). Though expensive, the test seemed to be drawn from that book. I then used the Sybex book to better understand the information. For practice questions, all I had was the test on the cd in the Sybex book and also at the end of the Sybex chapters.

Do not under estimate this exam. Things like NEXTVALUE instead of NEXTVAL may cause you grief. Understand cursors and creating users very well. Practice debugging codes. The bulk of the exam seem more like debugging exercises. If you don't know the syntax you will not do too well on the exam.

Good luck to all who will be taking it.
