| Aloha,
I was able to get a very helpful [at least I hope that it will be] text from Amazon.com I'm sure that it should be available from other stores, too.
The title is OCP: Oracle9i Database: Fundamentals I Exam Guide (exam 1Z0-031) I think that the cost was about $30 It is by Couchman and Marisetti, and published by Osborne/Oracle Press.
The organization is very well laid out for a rapid fire study, with review questions every few pages, section and chapter reviews and quizzes, several practice exams and a CD-based test.
I'm also using practice tests from SelfTest Software, which was a major help in getting prepared for the first exam. They are more expensive than the text, but their question pool is much larger and their practice test format was almost identical to that of the 1Z0-007 exam.
I'm not at all surprised to learn how much I don't know about the subject.
Good luck with your exams.

| I noticed VolcanoSteve's comment about the Self test software practice exam.
Are the questions significantly different from the 180 or so questions in Couchman's Oracle Fundamentals I book?
I am trying to get more practice tests quickly as I want to take the exam next week.

| Aloha,
Whether the SelfTest software questions are different enough?? Probably a matter of opinion. In my case, which is one of essentially no practical experience where I would have learned more of the process, I think so. I will say that their software helped a lot, in my opinion, in getting me over 1Z0-007. I also had other texts and an on-line support group working on my behalf in that endeavor.
The SelfTest format probably helped as much as the individual questions in getting ready for the format of the test. I do like its layout better than the CD test questions provided by Couchman and Marisetti. With SelfTest, if you don't understand a question you can get a great deal of information about the subject with one click, which is generally not available with the text.
If I only had a week or two to get ready for the test, I would probably not opt for another source. I have no real time pressure, but I would like to complete the exam prior to another bootcamp in July so I have plenty of time to use both sets of source material.
Then there is the cost to be considered. In my case, the $90 for the SelfTest software is an easy tax writeoff, and the cost came at a time when I had extra cash sitting around, as well. If either were changed, I might not have sprung for the extra help. |
