|

| I am a absolute newbie on Oracle Developer.
Just bought Christ Allen's book "Oracle OCP
Building Internet Applications 1 & 2 Exam
Guide".
While I am writing this message, my cable
modem is downloading the "Oracle Form 6i for
windows NT from the Oracle site behind the scene.
Guru like aneesh bhatia please help.
1. My Intel PC has Windows 2000 professional installed and I hate NT4. Is there a version (not Form 9i since I will be doing the 1z0- 131 and 132 exams) for Win 2000?
2. I have a quick read of Christ Allen's book, it appears that it is a book teaching you CONCEPTS on passing tte OCP Develper exam. However, I want to really learn how to build the forms.
Please recommend a detailed step-by-step tutorial type of book teaches a dummy like me how to build a form from scratch.
My goal is learn something plus passing the
OCP Developer track.
Thanks in advance. | |

| Hi joh322,
AFAIK runs Form 6i also under Win2000 (Reports 6i works well on my office PC). Which database are you using? There could be a problem connecting to the database from Forms when you are using an actual Oracle Network client. Forms comes with an older network client version - you need to configure it the same way as your 8.1.7 client to be able to connect to the database.

| Now I have installed Form 6i under Win 2000
Professional. It appears it is working fine.
What Oracle database (which version) I need
to install, please specify?
My purpose is for study purpose only, the
simplier the better?
Thanks in advance. | |

| Without a database is database programming only half the fun I'd recommend Oracle Personal Edition for your kind of use.
Forms comes with a tutorial and sample tables to become familar with the tool.
How is your SQL - PL/SQL?
