| Selftest Software http://www.selftestsoftware.com has excellent programs at fairly reasonable prices. **I am not affiliated with them in any way** I also notice that Oracle University has programs from on-line forums to CD-ROMs, but their prices are a bit steep.
I had the benefit of an intensive Oracle U bootcamp, on-line and CD support and the selftest software. Hard to say which was most important in getting through the first level SQL exam. I had the further benefit of having it all paid for by my employer, but I have signed up for the next step on my own dime with selftest.
I will probably also kick in for a three-month online program from OU, which should give me the support I'm going to need at a fairly reasonable cost.
Good luck | |

| For those of us that are almost 8i certified, do we just need to take the 1Z0-030 exam to become certified in 9i? Is this the only exam required for us? | |

| According to an email from Self-Test
"To upgrade your Oracle8i OCP certification to Oracle9i, you must pass this exam:
1Z0-030 Oracle9i: New Features for Administrators"
Similar information is at Oracle sites.
Note that with 9i, Oracle has introduced the OCA [Oracle Certified Associate] that requires two exams [the first can be done on line] and then two more to reach OCP.
If you are nearly complete with 8i OCP, you can probably stay and find work on that version for many years to come. I'm told that a lot of shops still have not upgraded from v.7 and those DBAs are still busy. It will probably be a while before 9i sees major adoptions by most large corporations. I think that, at most, there are a few hundred 9i DBAs already in place, and most companies are just in the beginning of the evaluation phase of any upgrade program.
I just hope that I can finish my 9i certs and get some practical experience under my belt before they ugrade again.
Good luck in your program --Steve

| Steve..
Thanx for the good info.
So your telling me that if I am 8i OCP certified and I take the 030 exam, I will be a 9i Oracle Certified Associate?
What title does the 030 exam give me with 9i?

| I think that once you have your 8i OCP completed, that you only need the 030 Oracle9i New Features for Administrators exam to move to 9i OCP. I suggest that you check with Oracle, though, to be sure.
I am very sure that once you have an OCP for any version, that you will not move backwards to an OCA level. I'm pretty sure that OCA is a new level for us newbies to begin to gather some practical OJT experience and demonstrate the ability to get over the first hurdles. It is only available for 9i, and seems geared to get us some recognition while we continue the trek towards OCP. [It couldn't possibly be a device to milk the certification cow, could it? )
If I understand the 8i OCP program, you need to pass 5 exams, which include SQL, Database fundamentals and tuning. The 4 tests needed for a 9i OCP include these subjects, so it looks like the only requirement for the transition from 8i OCP to 9i OCP is the one test. However, there is also a new level, 9i Oracle Certified Master OCM, that requires a few more exams, and is targeted on senior level IT managers.
I suggest that you check out Oracle University's certification site You will have to register -it is free- and you might have to start with just the www.oracle.com and tunnel down through the site to get to the 9i certification info. Bunches of info, including the objectives for each of the exams.
There is a near certainty that there are more experienced people in this group, who can answer your question with a lot more authority than I. You might want to start a new thread with a more specific title, that will attract their attention. |
