VCR, I wanted to ask Your opinion about testking --> These are supposedly the Questions in the real exam and with answers (by PROs) and explanations.
Just reminds me our arguing about 'braindumps' --> testking is kind of LEGAL braindumps (50$ each?)..
Well since I already got testking and itpass.net I AM NOT AFRAID TO USE THOSE!!!
Well wish me luck on the exam, I plan to take it on this saturday or next Monday/Tuesday...
(Depends on when I get really cheap vouchers... can You believe it --> I think I migth be able to pay only 50$ for one oracle exam... Sounds like a good deal?)

I have only completed 9i SQL and not OCA. My preparation material was Sybex (BPB Publications) and STS test online for which time limit has expired. As for sending you the book, I am thousands of Km away from India so postal charges would be more than the price at which the book is available in India. I would advise you to get it from a source in India pls.
Do not rely completely on STS. Go through Oracle Technical Notes through Internet.

| can't you read or don't you know website www.oracle.com/education/certification ?
Most of the things You need to know about certifications r there,
If youd have been there youd know that
1z0-007 is Introduction to Oracle 9i sql and
1z0-001 is Oracle8i SQL / PL SQL
1z0-001 is more difficult because You have to know relatively more (PL/SQL) than 007, but in 007 there's more Qs about 9i (new) features.
1z0-001 can be taken only in testing centre
1z0-007 can be taken online

| As someone who has spent the last month interviewing for a DBA, I can tell you experience counts first time every time.
It is market specific, but here, OCP is usually a "nice to have" unless the candidate is applying to Oracle.
The only time OCP becomes important is for those individuals who have 18 months or more experience. Then certification demonstrates commitment to learning (not necessarily Oracle) and quoting my boss (also previously a DBA) "at least they know what they don't know".
A common route to DBA is to take a developer role and demonstrate your knowledge of the product.
OCP alone is simply a piece of paper that has a very limited degree of respect in the industry. The certification will be downgraded even further if ILT and braindumps continue to be pirated and individuals continue to attempt to answer test questions "parrot fashion"

No You are not stupid, but we'll see about this 2nd part
Yaa, but You see - (at least nobody I know) uses braindumps in "parrot fashion" - remember the asnwers and thats it...
Usually You take an Oracle course, read books couple of times, will do the practice exams and then You will take a look at some other exam-prep materials...
Besides its up to exam-makers to put their lazy-asses to work for making good exams - afterall You pay them very good money just to take 1 exam - (100-200$). And besides I havent really seen any braindumps for Oracle exams (other than 001 and 007), all I have seen are the real-exam questions - (I think legally selling for 20-60$)
My opinion is that exams are not downgraded because people use braindumps but because exam-makers who will get tons of money for it dont bother improving exam-questions and exam-prep materials (there r few exceptions of course) | |

Tips and tricks, frankly seems more like luck to me.
Personally, I was originally a tester. I took an interest in the database and used what little knowledge I gained to get moved to a developer role. I spent a fair proportion of my time with the DBA and, as a result of knowledge gained from him, became an application DBA. More recently I was providing consultancy on a site who lost their Oracle DBA. I offered to take over and here we are.
Point is I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and that I could demonstrate an interest and degree of ability appropriate for the job they had in mind. Put simply I would be amazed at anyone who could get a fully fledged DBA job without experience. It is not a trainee level simple as that.

The general issue with braindumps is that they focus too tightly on the exam questions. Ofcourse that's aside from taken any last vestage assesment capability for the result.
The OCP curriculum is broad enough to at least give an introduction to most areas of the application. A braindump by definition is not.
ILT's are copyright as are "real exam" questions also covered by a non-disclosure agreement. Unless the above was referring to STS in which case I have heard they contain questions which appear on the real exams.
Quality of the exams is another question entirely and too big for this thread.
My original post stands firm. There is no easy way to become a DBA. Certification won't do it on it's own. Anyone who is trying to go about it in an illegal or underhand manner (downloading copyright material) deserves to have the mickey taken.

"Real-exam questions" were referring to Testking, itpass, Passgurantee, real-exams, acutal-exams, cheatcheets etc.
STS contains only very little percentage of questions which You will see in the exam though its very useful to understand what are the exam-questions based on (and thats ILT).
As far as Im concerned Ill try to study first(get certifications) and then find a good job. Im not sure if it would work out other way around | |

The point you raise is an interesting one.
Personally I would not base a preference on a job title. In my experience, the content of a role can vary whilst the title remains the same.
It would also depend on the site I was recruiting for but I can asure you, OCP would be pretty low down on the list.
One of my clients runs a 5*12 OLTP database of about 2GB. A bit of web experience would be useful but primary focus would be the knowledge to support the existing database and PL/SQL. We've put a highly experienced developer in there and he's doing very well.
If anyone can find a trainee DBA position then good luck to them. For the rest of us mere mortals, I suggest you use whatever experience you have to get a foot in the door of an Oracle site. Once in, start demonstrating/improving your knowledge.
You folks are all crying about OCP not getting you a job which it won't. What OCP WILL do is give a good curriculum to learn with. Combine that with some experience (perhaps in a different discpline) and ofcourse the previously mentioned luck and you may well do OK.

Unfortunately there are hundreds of people who can afford (or dont want to pay for) original materials...
And in a way I was responsible for this thread because I was the one who started arguing with vcr and he finally said that instead of braindumps, do not cheat and study from ILTs.
