Hi Buddies,
I've got some problems with accessing Oracle Enterprise manager. I have all Sybex books, but none is guding me as to how to access The Enterprise manager.

Whenever, I try accessing it, I reach a point where Am required to Choose the MANAGEMENT SERVER, SYTEM, and PASSWORD.

I just installed Oracle normally, I know my PC name, I have tried it in vain!!

Even tried guessing putting the User Naer: SCOTT, and PASSWORD: TIGER, but I've failed.

Is there anyone out there who can help me to access Oracle Enterprise Manager??

Regards

Buddy

You have to install Enterprise Manager (OEM) separately. You can download it from their site, but it takes a while. I don't think I would have gotten it installed without the Sybex DBO book, but even that wasn't all that accurate.

Hi Kasigwa,

did you set up an Oracle Management server? I guess not, and it is not installed by default.

If you start DBA Studio you get two options:

Launch DBA Studio standalone
Login to the Oracle Management Server

(choose the first one)

Then you get the login prompt - login as system / manager (as sysdba) or as sys / change_on_install (as sysdba).

Don't log in as NORMAL because some commands (like startup, shutdown) need more privileges.

Good luck!

Just to say Thanks very much to all of you that replied me. I have succeded.

I have all the 3 books from SYBEX for OCP DBA, but these books seem not to teach a person learning from scratch, they're exam oriented, moreless concentrate on revision Qns.

Am asking, which book can I buy that can really teach me Oracle from scratch and I get somewhere??

Hope to hear from you.

Regards

JK

Like I said above I used a Sybex book, but it was the DBO. The DBO is more basic than the DBA, and I used that cert as my intro to DB's. I'm not sure that I would do it again though. I have Oracle 8i for Dummies, but I haven't read it. I used UNIX for Dummies and More UNIX for Dummies as my intro to UNIX. Some people laughed, but it really helped me get the foundations down. Well after starting with UNIX for Dummies, I now have SCSA and SCNA for both Solaris 7 and 8. It can't be all bad. I think the Dummies series is sets a good intro, and if you need specific knowledge you know where to go to progress from there. Good luck

Pike,
Thanks for your continued support and guidence.

Indeed like u said, am trying out SCSA as well as Oracle, but I intend to do SCSA be4 OCP DBA.

From ur signature, I can see you intend to do CCNA, if u have not done, it you may send me a private email at : jkasigwa@yahoo.com.
