I am considering the NETg 8i DBA course. It's on CD and produce by Oracle.

They are costly but are they any good? Has anybody used them?

Your comments please.

In addition were is the best source of practice tests preferably for free?

I was using the NetG for the first exam 1Z0-001, and it was pretty crappy. Not only were the little exams chock full of wrong answers, but the software didn't cover much material. I complained vorciferously and got my money back.

I don't think Oracle actually produces these, although NetG claims they use them for internal training. At least I hope the official Oracle stuff is more accurate. Oracle has their own seperate series, I think. See:
http://oracle.com/us/education/trng.../tbt/index.html

There's a phone number to call; you could call and ask them if it's the same thing.

Try Self Test Software (www.selftestsoftware.com). The exams look just like the actual OCP exams. They're very good if you are looking for a good test simulator.

Nicole,

NetG SB CBT is not an exam. It's the computer based training that Oracle uses under the TBT (Tutorial Based training) It's actually very good, a cheap alternative to oracle classes (and even better if you can get it for free)

It has animated powerpoint, real audio sound, AND all the questions from the self test refer to this CD. I used it as an additional resource

I know it's not an exam. It does, however, have little mini exams in it after each section, which is what I said in the first place.

I stand by my personal assessment, at least for the portion I used (1Z0-001). The exams had the wrong answers in many places and it doesn't cover much of the material you need to know.

Don't you have anything better to do than impersonate someone (badly)?

Oh yeah, did I mention NICOLE that you rock the house,,, hee hee.

It appears as though only a handful of individuals that sound like they know what they talk about roam these halls, you being one of 'em.

honostly,, I would like to know your personal opinion on/about the Cibex trio,,,the books/study kit which they offer.

I will be purchasing some material soon and wish not to purchase anymore than necessary.

Thanks,,,,,silky,,,

Hi guys

I've found the NETG CBT to be comprehensive, but quite tedious to use.
In the past (early Oracle 7 and before) it came on floppy disk and was text only and very concise. When they started distibuting it on CD-ROM they couldn't resist the urge to 'add value' by using graphics which bear no relation to the subject being taught and sound recordings of the text read out by actors who quite obviously don't understand the subject matter in, to my English ears, nauseating west-coast accents. Thankfully, the sound can be switched off but the graphics remain and are very distracting.
If you can get hold of this stuff for free, as I could, then go for it. If I'd had to pay for it myself, I wouldn't have bothered.

Having said all this, it's still miles better than Oracle's Learning Network or, god forbid, the Oracle Simulators.
