| Oracle certification is not a give away. You need some hands on experience to reinforce what you read in any book or cheat sheet. It takes work. | |

| jpsahi,
You can download Oracle software for free from Oracle's web site and play to your heart's content. (I hope you have access to a fast connection!) It's not the same as a production environment, but it's better than nothing.
DBA must be easier than App Dev -- I'm pretty sure you CAN'T pass the Developer exams (excepting 1Z0-001) without building some product. Even if you do pass, you can't possibly know squat about the subject.

| Well thanks for info...
But i have allready tried that...some how it won't install on my pc..
and for developer or DBA.. well I would say .. if u can do one .. u can probbaly do other too.. ( But after lot of hard XXX work)
and for knowing nothing with experince.. I never claimed that i know anything about DBA either.. all i said was that i passed an exam.

| Heh heh... I had a major time getting Oracle to work, but it finally did. The only thing that is very stable on Windows is the Personal Edition, which worked fine on both NT Workstation and ME. It unfortunately doesn't have all the features of the full version, but at least you can play with SQL*Plus, etc. Getting Developer 2000 to work was even worse!
I think the App Dev exams probably really do need more hands on. You *couldn't* know how to troubleshoot code in C++ or Java if you had never written a single function. Theory and reality are always at odds. PL/SQL is easier to program than C, but it's still a programming language.

| Well for programming part... i made some really cool stuff when i was in school in c++ which actually worked with some peripherals that were made me.. so i made my hardware and software both..
And for personal edition and ME .. damn ..for me they don't work together...god knows why... I can't even get it to install

Well, it surprised the heck out of me when it did install perfectly the first time. I wrangled with NT for weeks to get it all working. I think your problem is an ME issue. Office 97 won't install on my laptop for some silly reason MS and Toshiba won't admit exists. Office 2k works fine.

| I have ALL the TroyTec notes for the OCP 8 DBA EXCEPT the FIRST ONE "Intro To Oracle: SQL & PL/SQL"
I will trade the TroyTech Net Admin, DBA, Backup Recovery, Perf Tuning for the Intro to Oracle Troytec or ACTUAL EXAM questions for 1Z0-001 exam...
I need this by 7/15 as I will be taking the exam that day.
Thanks,
