| Randy 2001-07-10, 10:59 am |
| Probably. But whatever my tastes, I have to work with Oracle and Access here. A heck of a lot nicer than DB2 anyway. What test are you working on now? | |
| jpsahi 2001-07-10, 11:05 am |
| I am going for Database Admin exam...
I am one of those hit by economy ..so taking this tdown time to learn new stuff... Never had any experince with oracle ... but hoping certification might get me a break... Where u from??

Didn't you say you were a COBOL developer?

| Not anymore! For four years I was doing COBOL with DB2 and IMS databases. Got a new job in May. here I do a little of everything, lots of end user support and reporting, usually with Oracle as our ERP package. We have some engines here that are add-ons to Oracel allowing us to write scripts in C or COBOL, but I usually just use the PL extensions.
From Baton Rouge, Louisiana . . . the single worst place in the U.S. for IT.

| OK, maybe not the worst place, but not far from it. Was a long time getting this job. Where you at? | |

Congratulations! I like jobs where there's a little of this, and a little of that.

| So do I, it keeps things from getting boring. My other job was sitting in front of a mainframe all day long and coding. It bored me senseless. Now I get to do a little network maintenance, some PC troubleshooting, some UNIX system admin tasks, I write scripts occasioanlly and am learning a lot more about Acces, VBA, Oracle and other stuff. And now I get my cert training for free as they actually encourage it here. The reporting is boring, but I get to do lots of cool stuff as well, so it looks like its a good move so far. | |
