| I loved the STS as a prep tool. There are plenty of 'trick' questions on the exam, but not quite as many as in the STS had. The way questions were worded on the STS were the same as the exam, and it helped prep me for odd wordings, extra information, etc. The questions are different, but very similar in type. Don't just memorize the STS -- it won't help, and it may hinder you when faced with questions that are almost the same but have different answers. The STS format is exactly the same as the actual exam, but the testing center that I was at has the monitor resolution set so low that I often had to scroll back and forth through screens and screens... annoying, and it makes the long questions seem more difficult than they are. It would have been nice to be mentally prepared for that.
My exam was very heavy in the "what's wrong with this code" category, which was one of the tough ones for me. Although you need to have the concepts down pat, don't expect to get any/many questions that focus on concepts or theory only. Not a huge amount of questions with exhibits either. When you do have an exhibit, pay careful attention to datatype and length of the fields in question. Be sure you know the differences between SQL, SQL*Plus, and PL/SQL -- and read the question carefully to make sure which one they are asking you to solve for. If you haven't been at least playing around with writing code in SQL*Plus and PL/SQL, you will have a tough time with the code portions. If not, get Oracle installed (at least the Personal Edition) and spend a little time tinkering with code snippets.
It's a pretty tough test compared to some other cert exams. Truthfully, you need to know ALL the topics to pass the exam -- it's designed to try and weed out "paper certifications," but I passed and I don't have any production Oracle experience, just playing around at home. (I do have SQL experience though, which helped.) If you are weak in one or two areas but strong in everything else, you may be able to get by. If you can pass the STS with room to spare, (if you haven't memorized the questions by now from using it so much) you should be okay.
Good luck, and let us know how you do! | |

| I haven't used the CBT software you mention, so I can't help you there. No, the STS questions are not the same questions on the exam. They are the same kinds of questions, same wording, same format -- just different details. Great practice, and IMO, far more reliable than Brain Dumps, etc. which are made up of what people remember and don't necessarily have the correct answers. | |
