| I tried to install Oracle 8i Enterprise Evaluation version in Win 2000 Advanced Server without success.
Is it true that I must use NT 4 instead?
Please help! | |

| It's supposed to work with Win 2k, but I could never even get it to work with NT4. I've heard the same from a lot of folks. My issue seems to be that it wanted to see a LAN network, and although I could jury-rig around a lot of it, I never could get it completely. Personal Edition worked fine though, and is running cheerfully with Developer/2000... which is another technical feat.
Your best bet is to EXACTLY follow the Oracle documentation at otn.oracle.com

| Nicole, thanks for your answer.
My sole purpose is set Oracle (whatever edition) up on my home PC preparing for the 8i/8 DBA exam. Please advise if the Personal Edition is good enough for that.
Thanks in advance.
By the way, how long is the evaluation version valid for? (90 days or 120 days?)

| Oracle doesn't give you an evaluation version if you download it off their website, it's the real McCoy -- licensed for developer/training use. The PE version is just free.
PE is fine for app developer purposes, but I'm not sure about for DBA. I would guess it's probably not.
Anyone? | |
