| Hello fellow DBAs
I am taking the DBA exam 1 in about one to two weeks and I would like to know if anybody can give me some advices. I am learning the Oracle University materials and do some selftestsoftware simulation.
Do anybody know? How the exam looks like...
I read some of the messages and I think with good motivation everything can happen. I don't have any programming background and my major is in Business but I managed to understand the materials. So you can do it too.
Good luck

| Hi, Good Luck on your exam, I took the test a while ago, but I'am a developer, (It's the same test for the developer track and DBA),
SQL and PL/SQL. With Oracle exams, make sure you cover ALL the material, because their exams are thorough, meaning they ask questions about every topic. If you have more questions, just post them.
|
| Hi,
So how did it go? I'm new to this group. I will be taking the Sql/PlSql exam this coming friday.
Thanks,
Alan | |

| Sorry Guys,
I am overloaded by my third class which is Performance Tuning therefore I had to reschedule the exam on March 10th. I will be done with my class and this saturday and complete my study.
I will keep you update.

| By all means keep us posted... I'm scheduled for March 15th and the 'latest' word would be great.
Good luck! | |

| Hi,
I got 91% on the DBA Exam #1. It was hard but not as bad as I thought. It was heavy on logic problems and not so heavy on details. A lot of the problems showed a piece of pl/sql code and asked what does it do or not do.
One trick I would highly recommend is to quickly read the whole problem including the possible answers. They will give you a hint as to what they are looking for. For example, if they ask which line has an error and the possible choices are #5, #7, #11 and #12 then you know to focus there.
Also, be aware of extra information. The questions were all scenarios and many had extra details that didn't seem to apply.
Anyway, study hard but don't stress out!!!
Let me know what happens,

| Congrats! 91% is pretty awesome.
You know, it's those 'what's wrong with this block of code' questions that I'm the worst at. My brain just doesn't work as well in reverse.
I'm sure I'll slog through it anyway. What's the worst that can happen? I fail and have to take it again. (And am out $125!)
Thanks for the comments! Guess I had better spend some more time on this logic questions.

| Hi Nicole,
Thanks
You're paying $125 for the tests???
Sign up for the OCP starter kit on the Oracle Web site. Right off the bat you get a 20% discount.
Even better - if you're company is an Oracle Partner you get to take the tests for $80.

| I signed up for the OCP starter kit a long time ago, perhaps the discount wasn't available then.
My company doesn't even know what Oracle IS
|
| Kana,
How did your exam go in the 10th? Well, I hope!
Wish me luck -- mine's tomorrow...
|
| Woo hoo -- passed!
Now for the next one... | |
|
| Congradulations Nicole!!!
Which one are you doing next?

|
| Next up:
1Z0-101, "Develop PL/SQL Program Units"
|
| i'm planning to write the Exam#1 in a few weeks
i'm a final year student of computer engineering and hope to also get CCDP certification along with Oracle DBA/Developer
all in the next 12-18 months
Are network design and database design so divergent?
when i told a friend he thought so.
i have a good programming background and i enjoy working on networks.
please send opinions. | |

| Network stuff and database stuff are obviously related closely. However, IMHO, they are two totally different fields. |
