| Hi Guys and Gals:
Anyone out there know the scoop on MySQL? They claim to be the open source challenger to Oracle.
Check out www.mysql.com

| I've downloaded MySQL, but haven't really played with it much yet. (Too much studying to do...)
My impression: open source is great and it seems stable, but not a challenger to Oracle yet; not even close.
Career-wise, it might not be a bad thing to spend some time learning. You never know when it might come in handy.

| Hi,
One of the groups at my company did an interesting project with MySql. It seems to work well and certainly has some interest in the industry. However, given that there are only so many hours in the day, I suspect that it is a better investment to study Oracle than MySql. And, if you ever feel like you know all there is to know about Oracle (your a hell of a lot better than me) I would pick something like Sql Server.
But that's just my opinion ... I could be wrong ...
