Getting a Database job. Will the Oracle DBA help?

| Just wanted to know if anyone had any idea how to get into the Oracle field. Preparing to run 8i on my linux set up. Will getting a DBA get me into a database job or will I just end up sending resumes and hearing "we're looking for experience" Just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas out there.

| Sorry no one has any comments for you. My guess would be "It depends on the job market where you are."
I'm going to sit for my first Developer test in a couple of weeks, so I don't have any amazingly accurate thoughts. My strategy is to try and get my foot in the door with an agency since I have other non-Oracle experience (although no certs), and try to get some Oracle experience under my belt that way. I don't know if it will work, but as desperate as they are for tech skills here in No Cal, I *think* it will. Since I'm new in town and I don't know anyone to network with, it's the only thing I can think of. Just sendin out resumes hardly ever works for any job.
Does your current employer use Oracle? That might be the best way to move into the database field.

| Currently looking for work. Every help desk job seems to be getting 100's of resumes. Just trying to find a way in the door, but its seems there are already 10 people jammed in it
I appreciate the reply and wish you luck.

| Thanks for the input. Ever notice Human Resources always want people who have numerous abilities such as Java, MCSE, C+, Oracle DBA and Networking certs. Seems like they need 2 or 3 people, but figure it is cheaper to just hire one. You don't have this problem in the medical profession. One sees very few podiatrists performing open heart surgery. Specialization is something the IT employers will have to accept or just not fill jobs for a couple of years.
Still plugging away!
