| The title kind of explains this post. Where do I start in the world of Oracle, and what kind of experience / qualifications would be of advantage to have if I wanted to take an Oracle exam.
I am totally new to Oracle.

| DB's were a weakness of mine. I figured I'd do the cert DBO, and it helped. I found the test really hard though and I barely passed. See I don't deal with Oracle or even Sybase every day, so I guess my interest wasn't that high.
Actually if they had it when I startded down the Oracle road, I think I would have went with the new OCA. Seems to provide a strong foundation in SQL and DB concepts, which is more what I was looking for at the time. I can't complain about the OCP DBO though, I did learn a lot. Good luck in you decision.

| Welcome to the Oracle community!
Oracle is a fascinating database - but it's a huge topic and you definitely need hands on experience besides learning the exams theory (otherwise you're bored to death! )
You need a good understanding of hardware and OS (NT, *NIX), some networking and programming experience is an advantage. A computer with a database is IMO essential (I would recommend a PC with Win2K - then you can use Oracle 8i Enterprise Ed.).
Why are you interested in Oracle? Do you want to work as a DBA or programmer (quite different tasks)?
Only curious ... | |

| I am interested in going into the admnistration side of things. Like I said, I am very new to this, but I have some MySQL exposure, and I know my way around the OS-side of things (NT/2000), however I don't really think that could be considered as "spectacular". |
