I am new to Oracle. So forgive my ignorances.

I installed Personal Oracle for Win98 on my PC. The Personal Oracle was downloaded from Oracle web site.

I do not see any "Oracle Enterprize manager" or "DBA studio". Are those not available in Personal Oracle for Win 98? Or My installation wrong?

How can I get those?

Hi there...

The Oracle Enterprize manager comes on a separate CD. Included in the same oracle package. The Oracle Studio is a component in Oracle Enterprise manager, therefore, you need Oracle Enterprise manager to get the studio manager.

I do not think you can run the oracle enterprise manager on win98. You need an NT version, Windows Server. However, you can fully run a database using the oracle cd that comes from oracle.

Any Questions, Cunfusion, Just shoot back ?

You can not insatll the enterprise manager and oracle studio on win98. You need an NT version, Windows NT 4.0/2000 is perfect for oracl, Unix is prefered.

So what you do is this:

If you are installing oracle just to get hands on, I prefer installing it on a unix machine, install enterprise manager, and Oracle studio component will be included with that. Note, Oracle Enterprise Manager comes on a separate CD from oracle Corp. So Buy the Trial version from oracle , 49$. and Install it, and get hands on.

If you just want to get your OCP Certification, you can just get any good practice exam, memorize the questions, and you are ready to take the exam, Go to www.it-recognized.com they have a word by word exam questions.

So, Thats my opinion, Any more confusion, complaints, discomfort, Just shoot me back with your questions.

Bye bye

Thanks LindaLokoriz

I haven't tried it yet. In fact the story goes like this. A friend of mine asked me whether we can run Ora Ent Manager on a Win98 machine. So, I searched the oracle web site and found a suitable download which said it can be installed on Win98. So, I replied him to try to get the download and try. Of course, he is trying to get OCP DBA 8i. And he likes the knowledge as well as the certification (to show the HR Dept).

Well, which flavour of Unix do you use for Oracle? How is Linux? Is installing and configuring Oracle 8i not that difficult?

Also most of the books teach from the Windows point of view only. Which book do you recommend so that we are comfortable with the Unix/Linux version?

Thanks

Well, Education is good, and putting it into the certification effort is also good.

Anyway, I suggest that you install Oracle on Unix/Linux. The latest version would be the best. AIX is great, Solaris is prefered.

For books, I used The Sybex Study Guides, the 5 books, and they teac you from unix stand point of view. Which is great.

I also used Oracle Press books, great books and accurate.

Installing Oracle is very easy, you may have some difficulty in configuring the tnsnames, but use the net8 assistant to help you with that. from the installation point of view, It is a tep by step intruction.

Anyway, Gotta eat some more turkey, cuz I did not have much at luanch.

Bye bye
