Hi guys,

I was thinking about studying for the OCP DBA exam...but I don't have any work experience as a DBA, even though i am a little familiar with Oracle on the development side. What do you guys think I should do? Wait and work with Oracle more and then try for the exam...or it does not really matter?

Also, some people told me that if workiing with Oralce, then Unix is a must, i don't know unix, will this be an obstacle in doing OCP DBA?? Please let me know thanks guys

Hi there,

while, most of the oracle database sit on unix server. Minor one will go to NT or win2000.

Knowing unix, definately, will put you in advantage. How to learn unix and oracle at the same time. Take my advice.

Get a unix book, like the sun solaris 8 from orsoborne, the thick book, install sun solaris 8 on your PC, and practise it, i promise you that in three months time, you know unix like back of your hand. Trust me man.

Oracle wise, try in on sun solaris 8 oS, or install on win2k or NT server, practise those commands and get yourself familiar with it. Regarding books, you can get sybex OCP , three books together, there's a lot of labs in it, practise it, after that you know a bit of oracle stuffs, try to get something, more details, build your foundation first. After that no problem man. In six months time, you be a oracle novice, slowly from there, read some articles, ask those DBA ,how they do their works, reading more books. And definately, you can make it.

How to pass ocp, while, i not sure anyway, coz, i have'nt started on it. I think using STS, cheatsheets and examcheets, maybe can pass the exams. I let you all know, when i done that.

You can also go for unix certifications, if you want to, getting unix and oracle certs, definately is good for your future.

OKie,wish you all the best in this field.

See ya!!!!
