Lijane,

I suggest you get the Couchman book and sign up on the Oracle website (it is free) so you can download their materials and documents to supplement the Couchman book. The site gives you a discount on the exams (20%) too. Details about each exam is outlined which pertains to the exam questions presented.

http://www.oracle.com/education/cer...tion/index.html

The SQL exam is pretty difficult in my opinion (I am a beginner) because the questions they ask are vague at times so you might want to install Oracle on your PC to practice. You can try these two sites to begin with for the first exam:

http://sqlcourse.com/
http://www.dcs.napier.ac.uk/~andrew/sql/

After you are done with the books, you can go for the Selftest Software (STS) practice exams. You could buy it or find some from those who post on this site. Sometimes, your company will provide you with testing materials like NetG which is pretty useful in addition to the book and STS.

Good luck!

Assuming you must be studying for the Intro to PL/SQL exam, I used the Sybex book for this exam. It was pretty thorough and had lots of practice questions. I also had Oracle installed on my computer, so I would type out all the examples. This really helps a lot to get a better understanding of the material.
Good luck

Go ahead with it. its quite easy.
After the installation you can then create your own database the suit your needs.

Thanks all!
I am still curious how long it will take to Pass all the exam if no experience just self studying. Can anyone give feed back on this issue based on your own experience?
Do I need to learn other language or other something to be a DBA?

Thanks!

Lijane,

I have been studying since July this year and I plan to take the first exam next week.

Like yourself, I have no experience in Oracle or network admin. Most DBAs suggested installing Oracle because understanding what you study (especially the PL/SQL part!) can help you progress in your Oracle knowledge. Someone told me that he took all 5 exams in 5 weeks but he is a DBA with at least two year's exp. Another uses it at work and she takes an exam every month or until she scores 90% or better on STS.

Both suggest using UNIX as most companies use it but you might start with the Windows platform first since it is easier to install and then when you feel ready, you can move on to UNIX or another platform if you prefer. I am sure others can give you more insight on this...

Lastly, it also depends on the depth of what you study and the motivation you have. I cannot afford to take the official Oracle courses so I do find that studying these materials are quite boring sometimes and end up on this site instead! Which reminds me...I had better go back to studying now.

Hi,
Sorry, I don't know what cramsession v 3.0, CS Check and dumps are. Can you explain it and where can I get it? Thanks! It's amazing they can pass exams just based on all these materials in several days.
I installed personal edition Oracle 8i on Win 2000 server. Now if I need to play around Oracle 8i, which books will be the one walk me through step by step to get better understanding with Oracle 8i.
I also tried to install it on Solaris, however, I had NON ACPI Device Error shown. Anyone can help??? Thanks.

Lijane,

It has been a while but I found the following website quite useful (it has articles on installing Oracle on Solaris). I don't know if you received help from others on this already but nonetheless here is the site:

http://www.dbdomain.com/news.htm#newlinks

You can sign up for a free login too and use their free tutorials (not all are free though!). They have helpful articles(online training) on Oracle and also other subjects too. How are you doing on your exams?

Hi, Thanks for the web site. It's very useful.
My Sun Solaris is intel base therefore it's hard to get an installation guide. Anyway I am using Oracle on Win 2000 right now. Still working on PL/SQL and I like to take the test as soon as possible. How is the test? Hard?? Give us feedback on your study and exam.
Thanks!
I heard Sybex OCP certification exam kits (You can check on www.bookpool.com and ISBN# is 0782126855.) are very good books too????
