Is anyone interested in Oracle?
|
|
|
| Hello Everyone,
I'm wondering if there are any people out there interested in pursuing the Oracle Cert?
I've been an NT Administrator for 2 years now and I feel my MCSE is **** now! I'm getting the hell out of Networking..Who's going to join me??
Oracle all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| I'm thinking about it. Is it something you can learn from the ground up? | |
|
| Oracle is absolutely something that can be learned from the ground up. I have a friend who teaches privately and his students come from working at Gas Stations to being Oracle DBA's. Don't get me wrong, it is a lot tougher then the Network Administration. With hardwork and God on your side anything can be accomplished. | |
|
| Do you, or he, have any advice for beginning? Thanks in advance.
I'm coming at this from a different angle, but still as far away from DBA as those gas station people. | |
|
| HERE, I am interested in Oracle.
Any good advise!
Compare with MS-SQL which one is harder?

| I plan on taking the Developers exams 1 and 2 in November. Can your friend contact me as I need extra training. quote: Originally posted by IT_STUD:

| Another alternative to the ILTs are the Technology Based Training CDs co-developed by Oracle & NETg.
These are the complete Oracle courses on CD-ROM with simulations to both allow you to absorb the material at your own pace anywhere and to get a hands on feel of the product!
These were designed to replace or supplement the Instructor Led Training. Of course the Self Test products are excellent exam simulators as well since they use the actual test interface that the live exams do.
I have some of these materials that I do not require & would be willing to sell, email monkeymom10@hotmail.com if you are interested.
Best of luck to all! | |

| I have to agree that Oracle is definately harder than NT Admin, but of course a shiny new MSCE will pretty much qualify you to make $9 on a tech support line (at least around here). I'm doing NT Admin now, and have been flying by the seat of my pants sans certifications or formal training, but you can't get away with that with Oracle.
You could definately start from the ground up; I pretty much am. But life will be easier if you have any programming background or at least some business math. Someone mentioned SQL -- I'd say PL/SQL is harder to learn, but if you know SQL you are going to have a big head start since so much is similar.
Yep, this stuff is HARD, but the payoffs are huge. I'd definately recommend it.. at least so far, I'm just now ready to cram for the first exam

| I disagree, I think ORACLE and SQL are easier than NT or networking. I am on the DBA side of Oracle and have built data bases and written SQL queries with no formal training or certification. However I have a long way to go. I learned on the job. I am pursuing the certification for ORACLE because it is much more fun than networking. If you like puzzles, logic problems and problem solving then ORACLE is the program. | |

I agree...I have actually always wanted to go after oracle but I am enrolled in the MCP 2K stuff and then A+.....realisticlly that is the direction I should have gone first with all my DBA background (basicilly I don't know what I do know) I thought about taking the equivilant of a MCP in courses to get started and see how I like it...which exams would that be?
