| hi
My name is Aisha and im student at college.. im doing a project on network
and i have problem in doing the project.. i would be thankful if you
could help me . the proplem is as below..
the lower college of Technologey (LCT)are currently thinkinig of upgrading
their computer systems to enable them to teach their courses more
efficiently snd effectively.
There are 12 colleges in the LCT.These colleges are spread across the
country - some are hundreds of kilometre apart . The colleges communicate by
attaching a few machines via modems to the national telephone company (
Tisalot)and using email.
In each college there are several buildings which have computer labs in
them . Some of these building are over 100 metres apart.
In the computer labs the machines are 'stand - alone' ( they are not
network)
All application programs ( e.g word , Excel) are stored on every C drive.
All student document files are saved on the internal C drive or on floppy
disk.
To print a document it must be copied to floppy and taken to a machine
with a printer attached . Each lab only has one machine with a printer
attached.
if you have employed to give advice on what kind of LAN/ WAN the LCT
should consider as a replacement for the current environment.
first of all i want you to describe to me the problems with the present
environmet.
and then describe the advantage of networking.
finally suggest a possible choice of networking technology within each
college:
1. wiring
2. type of network ( peer to peer or client/ server)
3. network operating system
4. Topology
5. linking buildings
suggest a better way of connecting colleges
please replay to me as soon as possible.
thank you
yours faithfully

| I would install cat5e cabling in the 12 ICT buildings. Install Windows 2000 Server w/Metaframe 1.8 on servers (1 for each 25 active users) at each of the 12 ICT locations in a client/server configuration. The servers should only be used for Metaframe and DNS and they should be installed as member servers. Install DNS on each box with IP addresses of each of the other locations Metaframe boxes in the scope (they all should be running DNS). Next, install the load balancing option pack on each of the 12 Metaframe servers. Setup async connections for the dialin users (not RAS). Then publish your applications across the server farm.
Pros: You have a virtual domain. All applications appear local. Client upgrade costs are not required. Applications are optimized for 14.4k connections so even your dialin users have fast effective connections. All client platforms are supported (MAC,UNIX,Win16/32,etc). blah blah blah
Cons: Cost and IT support expensive.
