| I don't quite know what citrix is. Can someone explain it to me? I know it is server software or something. I also know that it works with unix, does it work with linux?

| Doers it work on linux networks? I need to know because thats what I'm going to specialize in before I go towards Cisco.

| There is a Linux ICA client. You can also connect via a web browser with either ActiveX (Internet Explorer) or JAVA (JDK 1.1 compliant for Netscape).
There isn't a Metaframe server for Linux, yet. There is one currently for Solaris 8, AIX and HP-UX. The way the Linux market is going, I wouldn't be supprised if Citrix added Linux support. | |

| Citrix MetaFrame is essentially a thin client software package. It allows users of, say, win98 machines to connect to server and utilize the proccessing power of that server, in this case WinNT Terminal Server. Administrators can have users connect with their own desktop session...their own NT environment. Or admins can publish certain applications on the terminal server and have users do all their work in a seamless environment.
Allthough Citrix MetaFrame was designed with low speed connections in mind, it is a blessing and a nightmare. It is excellent for ASPs who utilize high bandwidth backbones and huge server farms.... and power users who know the ins and outs of the application being published. However, training the average user to understand the logistics of even 1 published citrix application [say, Outlook 2000] can be a hassle, especially over a dial-up connection
I've administered a single Citrix box for the past 9 months and it has been the source of the pain in my @ss.
Be ready to spend some big bucks for Citrix licenses as well.
