I've been studying for my A+ cert. I started out not knowing anything much about computers. Well now I think I need to know how to do things before I get my cert. I mean what's the use having the cert if you don't know what to do. I've come a long way but still need to know much more. I was wondering about some books and if anyone knows anything about them. First is Troubleshooting & Repairing Computer Printers by Stephen Bigelow. Another is Networking a Beginners Guide by Bruce Hallberg. Finally Handbook of Computer Troubleshooting by Robert Saigh. Are any of these books any good? These are the areas I need more work on. Thanks.

Remember A+ only give u general idea about Computer Hardware.

Troubleshooting is to look up problem, do u need it.

Repair - there are two kind = replacing and repairing the part!

Networking - U can study Net+, right..

I don't think you need any of those book, unless u are not confident with your A+ studying and your technology knowledge background

Hi everyone,

I am new in this forum, and I really need help from everyone in here. Well I am preparing for my A+ Cert right now, but I really don't know which A+ Cert books and materials are good to help me gain knowledge and hand on experience. I have heard that A+ Cert EXAM is just changing, so please give me some updates on the books as well as material to learn. Thank you everyone.

Most people will recommend the Mike Meyers
A+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, 4th Edition (All-in-One)

This is a good book to teach you a PC from top to bottom, but I found it lame as an actual study guide for the A+ exam. It does't tell you what you will see on the real exam (no exam tips or exam objectives present in the text), so you'll end up memorizing a ton of stuff that is not even on the exam.
It's a good PC book, it's just not very exam focused. If you into memorizing 1100 pages
be my guest.

The Exam Cram book is excellent, very exam focused, but you can always go to www.amazon.com
and do a search for A+ cert titles.

Some of the popular ones are:

Cyberlove,

The A+ exam won't change again until March 2003.

dagger,

Thank your for recommendation on those books, a month ago I thought of purchase that A+ book from author Mike Meyers. Circuit City sold this including the lab book for only $50.00. By the way, I'll check my local bookstore, see if they have those books that you suggest. Else I go with this book from Mike Meyers. Thanks again...

Paisleyskye,

Thanks for the information.

Have a nice weekend all...

What I used:

1. Mike Meyer's Book
2. Screwdriver
3. My PC

Just taking apart your PC and reassembling it for the first time is a big learning experience. After you've read the part about ESD give this a try.
