First -- before you make the investment... Have you decided to do the "MCP Stuff"?

The reason I ask is because I see many newcomers that go down the MCSE track because people recommend it but they never really know if they like it. If you do like networking and stuff -- my book of choice is Alan Carter's MCSE Study System. Use that with the MS Press for hands on and the Exam Cram for fine tuning. Many people would use the Sybex instead of the Alan Carter's book -- but it is four books instead of one. If you need the repetition get the Sybex.

If you are not sure if you want to commit to the MCSE track... Then I encourage you to consider the i-Net+ certification first. Here is my reasoning. In the i-Net+ certification you need to learn an entry level amount about:

Networking (MCSE - Microsoft Engineer)
Firewalls, Security and Routing (CCNA -- Cisco)
Programming (CIW -- Internet Webmaster)

I love the i-Net for newbies because it helps them find out for themselves what they might like. I see it all the time -- in the class the person that slept through one portion grills me with question on something else! The area that perks them up clues me and them in on where they should go... You are going to spend hours, hours, and hours learning the baseline to break into this business - you might as well ensure it is something you are going to enjoy...!!!

P.S. Thank my high school counselor for sending me to a typing class in my Senior year!!! (90+ words a minute can come in handy )

Sounds like you are going to put your hand in every pot... Ambitious.

Let me make another unpopular comment. The way the market is right now your entry level job is probably going to be something like help desk. One of the best things that can help you there is MOUS. I just had a couple newbies go that route, took them couple months, they got a job and are back to focusing on the IT certs -- but they are getting paid for it.

Whatever you pick -- Good Luck!!!
