Is it because I am a newbe, or does this book really bite? I am really not having any luck trying to get my head around Linux using this one.

It tells me what i need to do but is really scetchy on how to do it.

Any advice on great LINUX books would be appreciated..

There are some great howtos at LinuxNewbie.org that got me started. I've heard a lot of good things about the book Running Linux too.

Bible might be a little difficult to understand. My suggestion is look at the dummy book, see if you understand it. Then look for those immediate level book. Linux in Nutshell, 30days to Linux... At the end Bible.

It depend on your knowledge and interest. U might able to jump into the Bibile, but highly recommend to read other easy reading book first.

Enjoy the Fun!
