Guys, I need advises from everyone in here who are taking the 240 test. I recently passed the CCIE written test and now need to pass the 2000 test. I am currently a NT4.0 MCSE certified. What do I need in order to pass this test? What books do you recommend? I guess the infrastructure and designing should not be too bad since I am a Cisco guy. Please advise

Ok, It looks like we have people who don't even bother in helping people and answer such a straight forward question. I can't believe there is actually no one that can answer just a simple question. I always help rookie cisco people who want to study for their tests, like what material to use. It looks like there is people in this forum who only care about who passed what and who didn't so that they could get a heads up and maybe get some dumps from those people. I actually have hands on 2000 but lack of theory on it.(Since I only work on Cisco/Nortel) That is why I am asking for opinions here. I know their will be some people that will tell me to go back on some posts from other people but if there is only one person that can forward me to those post I guess it will the best. I thank you all and keep in mind that I will be back soon to post my MCSE 2000 certification update and will gladly help those with need like those I have helped and learned from in the Cisco forum. This is King Aztek, the aztek warrior..... I will be back

wow, this portion of the forums is pretty dead, you look at the network+ and A+ portions and they end up with 30 replys to any question, even to people just saying they passed stuff. but it has only been a couple hours man, give them time.. maybe someone will come up with some useful advice

The best study method for this test is to actually study for all four core tests individually. It is basically a mini-test of the objectives all the core exams. I would definitely recommend hands-on experience with both Win2k Professional and Win2k (Advanced) Server. I recommend the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit, Microsoft Press (with downloaded errata sheets), Inside Windows 2000 Server (by William Boswell), all available self testing software, study guides from this site, www.mcseguide.com, www.2000tutor.com, www.2000-mcse.org and www.mcsefreak.com (any webmaster that I omitted, please respond ) While you are studying for the 70-216 portion of the test, you will discover that there is a lot more to it than what you studied for your Cisco certs. You will also notice a difference in the format of the tests that you took for your NT4.0 certs. Hope this gets you started in the right direction.
BTW, at last check there was about a 12% pass rate for the 70-240.

Thank you very much USN. I really appreciated. I guess I will give it a try once I finish reading the book I have for 240. Is there any book that anybody can recommend for this test? I guess the tests are not that hard compared to Cisco. Thanks

you need to replace your expiring electives + 1 of the 3 design exams.

i have and like the Windows 2000 Resource Kit from Mark Minasi, et. al. on Sybex. if i was you, i think i'd take 70-219 first (that's a design test), which should be a little easier for you given the MCNE (NDS background = good for start with ADS). proceed from there.

also, USN has some very good advice.

good luck.

Thanks alot.. I have the exam cram for this test and I will also be attending the training for it but you see.. my company wants me to do a whole bunch of things....they want me to certify in ASE 2000 because my ASE is expiring by the end of this year and I need to upgrade my MCSE 2000 in order to upgrade the ASE. I also have to take some Nortel and finish up with the CCIE lab and probably go for the CCIP certification at the end. I have alot on my head right now that is why I am asking for help from all of you. Thanks and hope to be of any help in anything you guys need. Thanks again to all of you...

Tulcingo,
A co-worker of mine just passed the 240 exam using the exam prep, and the troytec study guide. We both work doing tech support for IBM servers in Latin America, but mainly hardware troubleshooting. Hope this helps.

Hi Tuclingo, I have read many of your cisco posts and used lots of the information..so thanks on that end. I am an NT4 MCSE and upgrading to 2k while pusuing my CCNP. As far as going for the upgrade, I highly suggest setting up a small lab. 2k server, 2k prof on a couple of boxes and 1 nt box if you have the resources. Along with the books mentioned in previuos posts you should have no trouble. I am using this approach with the troytech guide and find it a great supplement to the lab. No better way to learn it than to break it, set it up and bring it back up again..the books will give you a nice overview, but it seems to me that you will have no trouble if you can do it hands on...much like the cisco track. Good luck and feel free to e-mail any q's.

Hey Hantoosh, Nice to hear from you. I am really happy to see that my posts from the Cisco forum were in best interest to you and all of the Cisco fans. I am scheduled to take the 240 test in July. I going to a Win2000 bootcamp that will cover all needed to pass this test. So far I have a Cisco Lab and building a 2000 lab and will be putting them all together soon. I thank you for your posts and all of you that have answered my question here in this forum. I will let all you know how do with this test in July. Thanks
