Passed 70-221 this date.

It is still in the old format with a numerical grade being returned at the end of the examination.

I used:

Designing a Microsoft Windows Network Infrastructure Training Kit.
ISBN: 0-7356-1133-5

Designing a Microsoft Windows Network Infrastructure Readiness Review.
ISBN: 0-7356-1366-4

Transcender

From what Microsoft is doing with 70-219, this exam will no doubt be changed in the near future.

Congrats on the pass!

I didn't get a score when I took it and I took it back in August. So I believe the transition has already started, only it hasn't filtered to all the testing locations yet.

so how long is the exam
and how many cases and questions ?
is it five hours like 219? four cases?

I have not heard of this one being updated yet. You should still expect 4-5 case studies at a little over 40 questions total. I found this one to be the most challenging of the design exams.

I had 4 cases and 240 minutes to complete the examination.

thanks guys
i hated 219 , it was too long
so 240 minutes not bad at all.

jeff_black , how did you do in your security exam? i read a post by you few weeks ago but i did not follow up , did you pass ?
jeff_j_black

Nope, have not heard yet, they probably will not let those who took it know until it goes live. I was told 8 weeks to find out.

I will let you know though!!! Especially if I pass!!!

Well done mate , hope you get a job soon and enjoy using your knowledge you've learned.

I am wondering if you could tell that if is 221 exam easier than 219 ?
jeff_j_black

I think that 221 is slightly harder than 219.

well , i will take 221 tuesday morning
so i will have my opinion then
but 219 was not bad at all (active directory is not a hard topic to digest) it is just the format, reading four pages to answer ten question (is this how you judge people's knowledge?)

I was all set to take 70-219 - but Microsoft changed the format in September so that the time limit was five hours.

Decided to forgo that and changed over to 70-221. Only had one to go for the MSCE W2K certificate and did not have to grow old in a testing center to get it.

i am done with the last exam 221 and i am MCSE took me nine months
i can say that 216 has bad rep but it is the real network exam
the rest are just easy stuff
221 is definitely much easier than 219
218 is very similar to 216 and they should try to add more objectives to 218

thank all of you for your help and advices
now i will take two week vacation before i plunge into linux (i start seeing ads in new york time employment section for linux administrators ) it was rare before but now it is there in bold fonts , so it looks like it is not going to vanish like many people predict.

cheers
and for all of you picking your last exam to conclude your certification , this is the one , same objectives you already know from 216 and in an easy lite exam (4 cases , each with nine or ten questions)

Congrat on the passing and welcome to the MCSE world... to me, AD was a bit more difficult as I don't administer the network daily... anyway. good luck and hope this takes you some place and more money!

Do you have to have a photographic memory to pass these design tests?
adam6655nyc

tech ranger
it needs you to read carefully and understand what they want you to answer
it is not like the other exams where the answer is right there in front of you

first of all , use the "all" to read the case because it is easier to focus by reading the whole case

second (if we are talking about the design active directoy) then your focus should be on that topic not how many server the company has or what kind of connection is there the main focus should be on active directory topics
examples :
#1
if the case say SDF COMPANY do ....(does not matter what kind of business the company in)
it has four locations all over the world (we are talking sites here in active directory)

#2
then the case will go on to explain how the location is connected (by dial up , T1...ETC) THEN you should focus to understand how you will set your repliction strategy

#3
then read the network adminstrator because it usually has a trick in the case (like a problem with upgrading or an old application that you have to keep an old server running to support) this is where you focus on placing your servers and services (dns, wins..etc)

No, just understand the various means of connecting networks and how to configure them. The design exams are geared toward test knowledge in a practical application. This relies less on memorization and more on reasoning.
