| Because when people get to the electives, they spread out a lot. Many people are only going to take one design exam. Hence, it gets real thin up here.
Hey if you want to go for 220, you know I'll be there for you!
| Duke17 2003-03-18, 8:37 pm |
| I was wondering with the new flavor of security being what it is and since I don't have any electives taken yet. Ya think it would be better to take 214 and 220 to try and distinguish myself from the rest of the mcse's. that would leave me 216, 214,220 | |
| jeff_j_black 2003-03-19, 8:01 am |
| First off, it's good that you would consider something along the lines of security.
I noticed on the MCP magazine site that their MCP Database has a check box for MCP Security. I assume that refers to 214.
How much will your choices differentiate you from other MCSE, in an employers mind? Even with security being a huge key-word in the employment market, I don't think Microsoft has put enough together exam-wise in terms of security to make it recognizable as a 'security' certificate.
Would you be better off by having this knowledge? Yes!.
However, both the 214 and 220 combined only scratch the surface, compared to the issues we face day to day on security. But it's a great start.
From an exam standpoint, you will be working with a lot of key concepts that are common to 216, 214, 220. IP Sec, Encryption, Authentication, Certificate Services, just to name a few will be covered on all three.
Should you do it? I took 220 as part of my MCSE and took the 214 beta after I got my MCSE. I liked the 214, because it brought a lot of fresh information not covered in the 220. My gut feeling is that you would find 220 pretty dang easy after taking 214 and might be better off taking 219 for AD design exposure. That may depend entirely on your background experience and how familiar you are with AD.
So I would heartily recommend 214, you have to take 216, the other one is up to you.
Personally, I think you will benefit most by tackling 216 first, take your time and really get a handle on it. This will help you with 214 and 220.

| so Jeff... what is more difficult? 214 or 220? | |
| jeff_j_black 2003-03-23, 10:23 am |
| I think 220 has still not been updated, at least I have heard it still gives a score. For me 214 was more difficult in two ways:
a) I took the beta, 90 questions is just flat out a lot of questions.
b) Like 216, 214 goes alot more in depth on a lot more topics compared to 220.
If you wanted to know which to take between the two I would say 214.

yes......... i`m dealing with 70222, 70214, 70220 or 70224!!!!!! studyng a few of every MOC (I Take MOC courses one year ago about 222,220 and 224). now i`m making a hard studyng routine, as Server 2003 is already there and i`m worried if i can lost my MCSE without reach the status!!

| MCSE 2000 will not go away, but you will have the opportunity to upgrade by taking 292 and 296. None of your current exams will retire soon. | |

| Yeah I took 214 beta, it was a flat out race to answer that many questions in time provided. I think if I would of had a more through exposure to 216 it would put me over, but was unlucky and didn't pass. At the time had just finished 218 and had basic understanding of material. I am taking your advice and taking 219 then 216 and then will either take 214 again or 220. Already have the book and transcender for 220 so that is what I will probably take. | |
| jeff_j_black 2003-03-26, 8:26 am |
| Yes it would habe been hard to take 214 without the exposure to material in 216. Best of luck, it won't be long now! | |

| One day, a man noticed that a new couple had moved into the house next door. He was also quick to notice that the woman liked to sunbathe in the back yard, usually in a skimpy bikini that showed off a magnificent pair of breasts.
He made it a point to water and trim his lawn as much as possible, hoping for yet another look. Finally, he could stand it no more.
Walking to the front door of the new neighbor's house, he knocked and waited.
The husband, a large, burly man, opened the door.
"Excuse me," the man stammered, "But I couldn't help noticing how beautiful your wife is."
"Yeah? So?" his hulking neighbor replied.
"Well, in particular, I am really struck by how beautiful her breasts are. I would gladly pay you ten thousand dollars if I could lick those breasts."
The burly gorilla is about to deck our poor man when his wife appears and stops him. She pulls him inside and they discuss the offer for a few moments.
Finally, they return, and ask the man to step inside.
"Okay," the husband says gruffly, "For ten thousand dollars, you can lick my wife's tits."
At this, the wife unbuttons her blouse, and the twin objects of desire hang free at last. The man takes one in each hand, and proceeds to rub his face against them and kiss them in total ecstasy.
This goes on for several minutes, until the husband gets annoyed.
"Well, come on already, lick 'em!" he growls.
"I can't," replies the man, still nuzzling away.
"Why not?" demands the husband, getting really angry now.
"I don't have ten thousand dollars!"

| I got a question for jeff_j_black, MCSE.
It's a question already been asked on Examnotes. Don't remember which member exactly asked it (if anyone knows, please feel free to shout it out).

I think a contributing factor is that many people don't make it this far.

You have WNT, W2000, W95, W98 , Atari and Intellivision all networked together with ten DNS servers, 5 Wins servers, six DHCP servers with a domain, two child domains and a half-brother domain in a forrest with trees, and bushes and a partridge in a pear tree all integrated in a primary active directory with two secondary, three third-daries and a minor in art history. You move client 1 (who was using a Palm Pilot to log into the system but recently upgraded to a Game Boy) from segment A to Segment B and he can no longer attach to the servers via satellite like he used to do. You are to use the least amount of administrative effort.

I believe the answer is 3 PS2's networked to an old 3DO system with a microwave link to segment Z.

OK, so then we network the PS2 with the UBA and the USB to the 3DO.
