Passed the 219 today! Had 4 case studies, 40 questions, and 215 minutes to do them in. Kind of nice to have a score at the end instead of congratulations you pass.

KScheler you weren't exagerating, this is an easy one if you know all your Active Directory concepts. The multiple choice questions are short and to the point, and some of them were almost give me questions they were so easy. A lot of the answers are contained right there in the case studies. Some of the drag and drop questions were a little bit tricky, but if you take your time and really understand them, they are not that difficult. And time -- you get more than plenty enough time for this one. It almost seemed like a reading comprehension exam instead of a Microsoft exam. Overall, it was a nice change of pace. By the way, I scored a 958 on this one. I'm almost angry I didn't get a perfect score, but I'll take it!

Congrats! I wasn't joking when I said it was easy. You beat me on the score. I only did 917 on it. I did have a little trouble with a couple of those drag and drops. Other than that some were too easy. So, what's next?

Congrats on passing 70-219. I look to take this in about 2 weeks. I am 1/2 way through the book. Zaraspook or KScheler, can either of you tell me what the minimum score to pass is and the total questions? I know Zaraspook said he had 40 questions, is this standard or does it change? Any help would greatly appreciated. What is next for the both of you? Thanks

Thanks fellas! Next is the 221 for the MCSE, but first I'm going to take a little break. Minimum passing score on this one is 613. Good luck! I think the number of questions varies depending on which case studies you get.

Rush:
The min. score is 613. I had 4 case studies with 44 questions. (my guess is I got 40 correct. I didn't feel good about 4 of them, the rest I did.) It varies, depending on which case studies you have. Each case study can have anywhere between 7 to 12 questions so you never know. If you did well on 217 then 219 is quiet easy. Good Luck!

Wow, that is an awesome score! Good job. I found all of the design exams to be easier than 216 or 217.

Good work, Zaraspook!

Great score - I'm heading for 219 after I wrap up 216, which I plan to do soon.

Thanks Lexy! I'll do the 221 for the MCSE, but it's break time for a few more days!

I have 218 shortly then it's straight on to 219 for the MCSE.

I don't know about a break as I intend to take the CCNA before Christmas so it looks like it's even more revision after the Microsoft exams.

The exam is supposed to be quite fair. How did you find it compared to the other exams?

Very fair and easy too! But maybe it was easy for me because I had just recently taken the 217 exam and all the concepts were still fresh in my mind. I'll say this, the test format is quite a bit different. Long case studies with short and to the point questions. Take your time on the drag and drop questions though. Some are easy and some are tricky. Just make sure you understand exactly how the question dictates that you answer it. Once I figured that out, they weren't that difficult. Don't worry, you will have more than adequate enough time to take the exam.

The case studies are presented in a tabbed interface with radio buttons, so make sure you don't miss any of the tabs or radio buttons. I initially used the tabs and radio buttons to read the case studies, it helped me to segregate the case study into sections in my mind for easier referencing when answering the questions, then I checked that I didn't miss reading anything with the "All" tab. Many of the answers are right there in the case studies, so know how to pick out the pertinent from the extraneous.

Know the ins and outs of forest design, tree design, and when to create a seperate domain. Know the recommended ways of setting up your OU hierarchical structure. Understand security groups, setting up your DNS structure, sites and replication, FSMO and global catalog placement, group policies, trusts and trusts paths for accessing data between domains, and best practices for upgrading, migrating, and consolidating domains. Many of the questions want to know the business factors behind your decisions, so make sure you understand that aspect really really well.

I had one case study that required seven seperate forests. Know why it was required to design seven seperate forest.

They gave me two scratch sheets for this exam. I used them to sketch out the forest and tree designs, and also the OU hierarchy before I answered the first question on each case study. When I was finished, both the front and back of each scratch sheet was completely filled!

Chapter 9 - Designing the Active Directory Structure was recommended to me by Jeff Black and KScheler. I found it especially helpful and very excellent preparation for this exam. Make sure to study it well. I took notes from it and I never take notes. After I had finished the exam, I was glad I had memorized them!

Overall, I found the 219 exam different but also quite a bit easier than the core exams. Best of luck to you on the 218 exam and your upcoming 219 exam!

But now it's part of my crib notes for active directory along with the FSMO roles and AD rules and design notes.

I was going to take a week or so off but having passed the MCSA I've decided to go straight for 219 to finish off the MCSE.

So much to do: Exchange 2000, ISA server and CCNA before Christmas.

I suppose sleep is overrated.

Lex:
There's something I tell my students and I quess it applies to those seeking certs because we're students too. I tell them," You're a student. Students don't have a life until after graduation."

Considering my workload I won't graduate for the next few years then.

Like freak I enjoy taking the exams for the challenge but I really need a change after 219 so hopefully, I can alternate between Cisco and Microsoft exams.

I think your statement applies to all of us.

Sorry it's late but congratulations on the pass, this is my final exam before MCSE so I better get chapter 9 learnt and brush up on my 217 notes.
