A month ago, you had installed two DC's (DA, DB) for your single win2k domain at your office. 40 users were logging in since then into these DC's from their PC's.

A new office came up, and your boss asked you to ship off one DB to the new office. When it got there, it was connected by T1 to the local ISP there, and it's IP settings were set, and it's DNS setting was pointed to DA where the DNS has been running for a month. To verify connection and IP settings, you pinged successfully from DA to DB.

On DA, you create 10 accounts for new employees at the new office. Next morning when the new employees came in at that new office, none of them could log into the domain from their PC's (which were made part of the domain at old office). The TCP/IP settings of the PC's are totally correct. (No problem with the PC's at all)

You fly over to the new office and try to login yourself and you did just fine from one of the PC's using your account.

You are trying to figure out why new employees are having a cow about this.

What's going wrong?

(no multichoice. this is a real situation)

What is the error that you get when trying to log in? Is it saying that the User account cannot be authenticated, Machine account does not exist or no DC is available to Authenticate logon? What is the error message?

Jonoplunk, in the question i mention a few things to answer your questions. But since you asked, the error is that the user cannot be authenticated (wrong username/pwd)

Hope this helps.

Hey! What about replication topology? Someone tell us what happened when you moved DB?

Jeff, since you are now an MCSE in 2k, you picked up on the missing pieces

I wanted to see if exam takers will pick up on some important part of this puzzle.

that's all for now.
