Maybe someone can help me with this problem.
It is concerning a long time to log on to Active Directoy.

We have a site in Madrid that just recently got their first DC W2K, the clients are still Win98.
I have installed the DS client on the Win98 PC:s. Since our HQ is located in Sweden we would like to keep our roles their and of course the PDC emulator is located their aswell. The thing is that I think the Win 98 clients go over the WAN to authenticate themselves, but I thought the nearest DC would take care of that if you just installed the DS client.
The logon process is about 40-60 sec.

Thanks in advance for your inputs

I would first try looking at WINS because you are using a downlevel version of windows. Also you may have to make the DC a global catalog, since it is a best practice to place a global catalog at each site.

Do you have GCs in all your sites?

Yepp, the server is a GC and we have GC:s in all our sites. If we could we would like to leave WINS out of it to be able to keep a clean enviroment.

If you guys are not using WINS then you just solved your own problem. Win 9x Clients need WINS to locate PDC emulator as with the NT domain model. We had a similar problem on a AD migration project. The site did not have any WINS servers in their DHCP scope options. As soon as we put them in they were able to logon even faster than the Win2k clients.
