| I sat and passed 70-217 a couple of hours ago (despite failing badly on Deja-Vue's QOTW) and thought I'd better get posting before I forget any of the info from the exam.
It was 49 questions and I had 135 minutes to complete the exam. The exam took a lot longer than expected to download so I had to wait for over an hour in the testing centre cafe trying not to get the easy listening tunes from the blaring radio stuck in my head!
Overall the exam was a little harder than I thought mainly due to the presence of the new format questions. I had about 9 or 10 of these type of questions and 4 or 5 were DNS related. I found these questions quite hard and made harder by the multiple windows you have to scroll with no chance of getting all info on the screen at once. The other problem I had with these questions was when I scrolled in the window where I was supposed to drag and drop the question, the contents of the window would turn black in patches making it difficult to read.
Oh well enough of the complaints and on to the content. I had lots of DNS (which I found hard), lots of GPOs (including some assigning & publishing software using a GPO to deploy), quite a few easy questions on OUs (delegating control etc), some on RIS, security (templates, applying templates to multiple computers, secedit).
I also had a question on backup (auth restore), one metadata cleanup question (demoting a DC & hard disk fails - how do you get rid of server objects), a question or two on global groups and DL groups (nothing on Universal groups), 3 or 4 questions on auditing, one on lost and found (user deletes OU on DC1 you add 5 users to OU on DC2 how do you fix?)
Notable absentees were no questions on operational masters, transfer or seize roles. None on moving objects between domains or within domains. None on Universal groups.
Overall there were enough questions in the exam that were fairly straightforward so that if you put in the work and did some practice exams you should pass. The new questions I found difficult, I'm not sure if it is the different format or the content but it would be interesting to know how many I got right. Probably not many.
That's about it for this post. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. I'm off to decide if it's 218 or 219 I'll do next.

| Well done!! I really didn't like the "new" drag and drop questions either. I thought they were akward to navigate through. | |

| Hi,
The 218 is relatively "easy" but if you are looking for an elective where you walk in and walk straight out is the 214 has you have 50 questions and 2 hours to complete it. I was out of there in 15 minutes...good luck with which ever one u decide...

So am I!!!
I've from beautiful Luton in Bedfordshire, I'm going back to the UK in May, probably for good. Long story I've posted elsewhere why......I wish I looked like Del Boy I love that show, miss that, it's never on here can't be bothered with Fox it's shit, give me sky TV anyday!!!! I'll miss Oz though, beautiful place!!

Nah Luton Airport, nice I have been there whilst working many many times, just off jnc 13 off the M1 I believe?!
I emigrated nearly two years ago, having left beautiful Wallington (near Croydon). Pardon me using the term beautiful very loosely
Yep, Only Fools and Horses, classic British comedy, at it’s best.
I have Aus-star satellite, which is almost as bad as the terrestrial channels rugby, rugby and more rugby, they don’t even show their own entertaining stars, like Paul Hogan, or Dame Edna, I guess they have wafted off to Luton I am not paying extra dosh just to get UK T/V and another 20 channels of rugby!!

| Yep reugby drives me mad, I've been to a couple of Broncos games and Lions. Give me proper football anyday. I bet you love Aus compared to the UK, I actually miss the UK which surprised me...I have a son in the UK so my heart has to return. I'd love to kidnap him and bring him here....I work in Brisbane, small city compared to London!!
I worked at the Airport too, for Monarch Airlines, my Dad worked for Britannia and a mate used to do the baggage...good old Luton Airport...

No question about it. This place is brilliant, friendly people, fantastic weather, not over crowded and fantastic beaches. What more could a person ask for except to be near their son and a decent indian restaurant wouldn't go amis
Good luck back in good old Blighty when you et there Spides.
p.s. I did check out your web site but the pics didn't all download to the browser properly and those that did took a long time. I only have a 28.8k max connection because of some multiplexing gadget thats on the telephone lines because I live on acreage.

| Cheers for checking out the web site, yeah it can take a while. Seems to be a downside here, the internet here is so much slower, even cable internet. In the UK Gigabit connections are the norm now....are you working in IT, there isn't much of a market here but I'd live here tomorrow if I could bring my son.....yep I miss the pubs as well, sunday afternoon, few pints with the lads and shouting at the TV as another footie team XXXXs it up.... | |

| Spides, no I am not working at the moment. I have decided to take up studying full time and try to get the MCSE. I am really slow at passing these dreaded exams though. I feel by the time I get an MCSE, then upgrade it to 2003 it will be 2005 and another upgrade will probably be due. I would eventually like to work in IT on the Gold Coast but the chances of landing a decent job here is mighty slim. I have time on my hands, so we shall see what happens in the future.
How long have you lived in Oz and how old is your son?
Cheers,

| I've been here for about ten months, spent sometime in Sydney which was too much like London for my liking (I worked in London for quite a while) even though I'll probably have to return. I spent about eight months bumming around which was cool, spent a lot of time at the Coast, I prefer the beach further up by Twin Towns, not so commercial. My sons four, and I miss him terribly, if it wasn't for that I'd stay, but no point thinking like that, have to make the best of what we've got...yeah MCSE is a major pain in the butt, I hate it, I'm only doing it to gain some interviews when I return...I did my CCNA which I found a lot more interesting. Stick with it, you'll get there but $250 an exam is a painful experience... | |

| Rather then starting a new thread entitled “I passed 70-210” I will add to this one because the first post is pretty accurate. It is a difficult exam and there were something like 6 questions that had a format where there is in one window the question, in another a network diagram and in the third additional data (such as settings etc.) then you either have to drag and drop the correct responses or check boxes to indicate the correct answers.
You will know these by the fact that there is a delay when the questions load and they have a blue border on the top and bottom of the screen. Be prepared for these because they are difficult. I had one on DNS and some on TCP/IP setting sand another on security logs and another on setting up the replications. I cannot remember what else but you get the idea. If you are studying dumps forget it. At this level you have to know the material.
The rest of the exam focused on AD settings mostly. Some were tricky, some were easy. It is the new format hat I found most difficult.
All I have to finish now is 216, 223, 224 and I am done. |
