| I am preparing for exam 70-220, and I am thinking about ending the MCSE certificate with 70-222 exam cause I have some study stuff for it.
my query is: does the 70-222 still worth the effort or it is taking it's last breath?
thanks | |

| Hi Adam
Yeah, I think it still has a lot left in it. I am plannng to take this exam after I have killed the beast.
There are a hell of a lot of companies still using NT and will have to upgrade to 2k/2k3 at some point.

Hi Adam.
My 2 cents:
70-222 is one of the hardest test of the MCSE track. If you really need this one for your job, go ahead and kill it...but, if you just want to finish your MCSE quickly, take another one and skip this.
Mi opinion: "real" IT Engineers (people who work on big enterprises) and people very M$ related, say that instead Migrating, a fresh install is recommended, so... ¿why spend time and study with this test? Its just my opinion anyway. Here at HP (a ver, very big company...believe me), the NT to Windows2003 migration process was not a good experience. And we have some NT servers internally that we are going to migrate to W2k too, but we are going to make a fresh installation instead; it is not so risky.

| I tend to agree with Jeff.. I don't think it's worth it doing this exam because most environments are focusing on doing fresh install than upgrades. I think you should take another exam to complete your track.
Just my 1 cent. | |

| Thanks
So if I finish my last two exams with the:
70-220 and 70-214,
with (70-210, 70-215, 70-216, 70-217, 70-218)
does that count for me to the MCSE+Sec?

| You need to either take the ISA Server 2000 which is 70-227 or the Comptia Security + to get MCSE+Security.. | |

So 70-220 and 70-214 will give me the MCSE and adding 70-227 will add the +Sec to my title, right?
but what about upgrading to 2003 sever, what is the shortest bath for doing that from my point now, how can I eliminate some of work towards that certificate?
What made me thinking about upgrade because I have read that:
Microsoft to Retire Windows 2000 Server!!!
http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,113923,00.asp
Don’t know what will MS decide after getting Server 2003 cert!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| I thought that 70-222 was a disappointment. It's a fairly easy exam on planning a migration and how/when to use ADMT (1.0) and a few other tools to migrate your domain servers from NT4 to W2k.
The times have changed a lot since this exam rolled out:
1. WS2k3 is a newer and improved product at about the same price as Win2k.
2. WS2k3 uses ADMT 2.0 which is vastly improved over the prior version.
3. The normal service lifecycle of Win2k for support and free suppliments expires on 31 March 2005. Security hotfixes for it will cease on 31 March 2007.
Honestly, you are better off going with 70-227 or Security+ and learning potentially valuable concepts than you are memorizing proceedures you most likely will never need to use.
Another benefit is that should you get the 70-227 or Security+, you can apply it towards the MCSE2k:Security and MCSE2k3:Security certs.
All exams require 1 of the following 2 as electives: 70-227 or Security+
MCSA2k:S - 70-214
MCSE2k:S - 70-214 and 70-220
MCSA2k3:S - 70-299
MCSA2k3:S - 70-299 and 70-298
To upgrade from Win2k the following are required:
MCSA2k3: 70-292
MCSE2k3: 70-292 and 70-294
Cheers,
