And today's poser is ....

Q19. You would like to use Remote Installation Services to deploy Windows 2000 Professional to several dozen computers on your company's network. Currently, you have Active Directory available on your network along with DNS and DHCP. You are evaluating several different computers to see which ones would be able to be RIS servers. The servers have the following characteristics:

Server1

-Windows 2000 domain controller
-Contain two 2-GB partitions: * C: partition contains system partition, has 500 MB of free disk space and is formatted with NTFS * D: partition contains boot partition, has 1.2 GB of free disk space and is formatted with NTFS

Server2

-Windows 2000 domain controller
-Contain three 2-GB partitions: * C: partition contains system partition, has 500 MB of free disk space and is formatted with NTFS * D: partition contains boot partition, has 1.2 GB of free disk space and is formatted with NTFS * E: partition has 2.0 GB of free disk space and is formatted with FAT

Server3

-Windows 2000 domain controller
-Contain three 2-GB partitions: * C: partition contains system partition, has 500 MB of free disk space and is formatted with NTFS * D: partition contains boot partition, has 1.2 GB of free disk space and is formatted with NTFS * E: partition has 2.0 GB of free disk space and is formatted with NTFS

Server4

-Windows 2000 member server
-Contain two 4-GB partitions: * C: partition contains system partition and boot partition, has 500 MB of free disk space and is formatted with NTFS * D: partition has 3.0 GB of free disk space and is formatted with NTFS

Server5

-Windows NT 4.0 domain controller
-Contain two 4-GB partitions: * C: partition contains system partition and boot partition, has 500 MB of free disk space and is formatted with FAT * D: partition has 4.0 GB of free disk space and is formatted with NTFS

Without any additional configuration, which of the servers have the ability to be a RIS server? (Choose all that apply)

A. Server1

B. Server2

C. Server4

D. Server5

E. Server3

Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

I will take C and E

C & E.

Server 1

Not possible because RIS has to be separate from where Windows 2000 is installed.

Server 2

Not possible because E: is formatted with FAT. Has enough space but RIS requires an NTFS partition.

Server 5

RIS is a new feature found in Windows 2000.

Slinky 'Drives' too fast lol

Ok, it's late then never, :

Server 1- shortage of space but possible.
Server 2- not so sure it can be done on a FAT partition.
Server 3- Sounds good.
Server 4- Unlikeylas RIS needs to be on a DC if I'm not wrong.
Server 5- Unlikely on an NT DC.

I'll go for 'E', though Server 1 & 2 maybe able to work, but I don't think MS would want it to be done that way.

And the answer is ....

Correct Answer: C and E

Remote Installation Services can only be installed on Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server or Windows 2000 Datacenter Server.

Remote Installation Services cannot be installed on the same drive as the system volume or boot volume.

The volume you choose to install Remote Installation Services onto must be formatted with the NTFS file system and must have at least 2GB of disk space available.
