And today's poser is ....

Q18. Alison and Frank are both Systems Administrators that work for the Great Britain Space Agency. The GBSA has a single Windows 2000 Native Mode domain spread throughout the island of Tonga, used as a launch facility for Great Britain's deep space program.

There are five Domain Controllers in the GBSA domain with the following names:

launchdc.gbsa.gov.uk
trackingdc.gbsa.gov.uk
controldc.gbsa.gov.uk
redundc.gbsa.gov.uk
tongadc.gbsa.gov.uk

Alison has an Administrative Terminal Services session opened to launchdc.gbsa.gov.uk She has just made a change to an attribute of an Active Directory Object from this Terminal Services Session.

Before the change replicates across the GBSA network though, Frank - logged in via an Administrative Terminal Services session to tongadc.gbsa.gov.uk makes a different change to exactly the same attribute of the same object.

Windows 2000 has a process for handling the replication conflict that has occurred in this scenario.

Which of the following represents the correct order in which the following information will be considered when resolving the conflict?

A. Version, Originating DSA, Originating Time

B. Version, Originating Time, Size of Attribute

C. Version, Originating DSA, Size of Attribute

D. Originating Time, Originating DSA, Version

E. Version, Originating Time, Originating DSA

F. Originating DSA, Originating Time, Version

Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

I 'll pick 'E'.

I'm amazed wbafrank has put Win2000 into an environment that is so 'class'

E. Version, Originating Time, Originating DSA
F. Originating DSA, Originating Time, Version

And the answer is ....

Correct Answer: E

When resolving a replication conflict, three pieces of information may be considered:

1. Version - A number that is incremented for each originating write.

2. Originating time - Time of the originating write according to the system clock of the domain controller that performed the write.

3. Originating DSA - A GUID that identifies the domain controller the performed the originating write.

When this information is compared, the version is the most significant, followed by the originating time and then the originating DSA.
