And today's poser is ....

Q13. You are the administrator of a Windows 2000 Active Directory network. One of your Domain Controllers is getting old so you decide to take away the responsibility of having it act as a global catalog server. After doing this, you notice that the Active Directory database file (Ntds.dit) did not change size. What can you do to reduce the size of the database?

A. Run an online defrag of the database.

B. Boot it into Directory Services Repair Mode and run an offline defrag of the database.

C. Boot it into Directory Services Repair maode and run an online defrag of the database.

D. You cannot reduce the size of the database.

Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

Agree with Jeff - B must be it.

Yes,you can re-size the Active Directory.
On the Server 2000 Resource Kit (2 CD's) is a little Program, that will allow you to do just that.

Yes I agree 'B'is the best way to reduce your database size.
Although it is really a last resort.

And the answer is ....

Correct Answers: B

To accomplish this task take the Domain controller offline, boot it into directory services repair mode, using the F8 key at system startup, and use Ntdsutil.exe. This creates a second, defragmented version of the database file that is considerably smaller than the original database file. You can then choose which database file you want to use on the domain controller.
