| me? I dunno... 2002-10-28, 5:47 pm |
| I have copied all the files from the office 2000 disk to a shared folder named software. I open group policies for the domain and select user configuration/software settings/software installation. I then right click and select new/package, I browse to the software folder on the dc and attempt to select a file, only the dialogue box will not accept ANY of the files, I tried the command prompt approach but it redirects me back to the group policy smap in, which won't accept any of the files? what gives? | |

| You have to create or obtain an MSI package to use Group Policy to deploy software.
On the win2K server CD there is a program called Winstle, have a hunt, you will find it.
Once you install it you can take a "before" snapshot of your system, then install the app and make any configuration changes you require, then take the "after" snapshot which creates the "Program_name.msi" file. This file must be in a shared directory and make sure to use a UNC path when you point group policy at it , not the litteral path or else it will bomb on you.
Server help has plenty of information on doing this.
