| This is not called Slave-Master situation. This is a peer-to-peer network. Use a hub. | |

Why can't this person just use a crossover cable? Much more cost-effective...That's my advice...

| I think what the original poster meant is that he wants one of the computers to be the server and the other one to be the client, which is server based and not peer-to-peer. I could be wrong about what he meant, but that is what I got from the slave/master comment. Remember, he just started his MCSE course, so it will take a while before he has the lingo and terminology down.
He doesn't need to use a hub, and can use crossover cables instead, as liquidplatinum suggested - that's what a bus topology is!

| Also, he might want to run TCP/IP as his net work protocol.
1. Make Crossover cable
2. Install TCP/IP on both machines
3 Use private class C addresses: PC#1 192.168.0.5 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 (no default gateway) and PC#2 192.168.0.6 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 (no default gateway).
You should still receive a dynamic address from your ISP so don't work about messing up your internet connection. Those Private IP address will not advertise on the Internet as long as the ISP have their routers set up properly.
Good luck....
