| Here is my scenario:
My friend is sharing an office with another company. One company has 6 PC's and the other has 2. Right now they are sharing the same internet access through a 4 port router. What they want to do is to separate the two companies so that they do not share the same subnet. I guess what they really want to do is to have different domains (or actually be able to use their own mail accounts (example mail@office.com). Is there a way to do this with a router or would they just need to get separate accounts through the ISP??

| if they have at least to ip addresses from the isp they can make 2 diferent domains, and the clue be defining diferent gateways for each domain, i mean subnet, it be defining the proper network addresses for each sub network, using the same router, but if you can spend some bucks on a new router, they can have separate connections, and make the same thing on both of them changing the net address of each company. for security i mean.
see you | |

| okay, now the question is how would this work out with a wireless infrastructure?? Would I have to use a VPN to separate the networks? | |

| i dont think you need to use a vpn in order to separete two networks, lets see, you could do it with a wireless bridge.
i hope it works out for you

Ok...let's see:
-2 Companies, say, ABC company and XYZ.
-1 location: the office
-1 DialUp or Access to Internet
What could you do (or at least, what i could you in your case)
ONE physical Subnet with 2 Domains
-You can have 2 different domains in the same physical subnet. Should not exist relation between them. So, you could create/separate 2 differents NT or W2K Domains: one for ABC company....another one for XYZ company. Just SetUp 2 differents DC for each one.
-SetUp one DHCP Server in your Network.
-SetUp NAT in a Multihomed W2K machine (the machine with Internet access). Then, configure each DNS/DC Server (for each Domain) for reach internet access using the NAT Server. All client's gateway must be the NAT Server.
Should work... | |

| Howdy Jocampo, what about the wireless stuff, what he needs is the hardware point of view, what i see would be a big problem is the phone bill, whos using what, ill switch to a permanet conection.
nice to see you around. | |

Hi Luisjo.
¿what wireless stuff are you talking about? I think there is only one location and office. And in that office, there are 2 companies working, sharing one internet connnection. Maybe i'm wrong, but that's what i'm seeing in his question.
